So far so good, although our winter is still young. Just some snapshots of first-year stock replants, 1-year-old clumps and some new to me additions. I'll add some older clump picts a bit later. Gotta limit the photos -- have hundreds more i could add - lol
El Nino is expected to treat my region gently this year in regards to winter weather.

wish mine increased that well. i'm lucky if the rhizomes ( increase) in my garden by 4 or 5; mostly it's an increase of 2 or 3 a year.

the good of this senario might be that i maybe able to plant the irises closer; i'll be able to cram more in! Rolling on the floor laughing

I have some newly planted that are looking great, but as it is still raining and only January I don't want to jinx the lovelies. You look great Tim!

Wow, Tim! That's amazing growth!

I had some pretty fast growers.

One noid which looks like Indian Chief was planted in August and one rhizome inparticular sent me up seven increases, while most of the others did 2-4 increases.

Cat's Eye was a decently small rhizome and planted in September 2018 and it shot up five or six increases.

Currently, there's a lot of three-four increase rhizomes, but some of them have produced increases really fast. Kwik Kash has three, Epicenter has three, the old iris Florentina has sent me three (after two full months of waiting for any indication of increase). The other noid that a friend gave me with the Indian Chief lookalike, most of the rhizomes have 2-5 increases.

There's quite a few that were more recently planted (October) who haven't given me any increases, such as Thornbird which I am shocked by, but Tobacco Chew is growing rapidly. I figure the later planted ones didn't have really a large amount of time to send up increases - some of them probably have gone dormant.

One iris inparticular comes to mind that is really lacking.....Golden Panther. It was planted in August, with two fans (two rhizomes conjoined at the middle to make a super..rhizome?) and a huge rhizome, and it has not even sent up one. I very gently brush around the sides and backs of the rhizomes, and nothing. I'll have to see what happens with Golden Panther though. It could be simply where it is planted. Shrug!

Monty, not all newly planted Iris start increasing as soon as they are planted. In fact you will find many that don't. They are busy getting their roots set, and getting settled in the new environment. So don't be too hard on them as they may end up being your best growers down the road while some that are growing fast now may not continue to increase at their current rate.

Of course Leslie, I know that may be the case, but it was more of a sentiment towards this thread's idea.

I'll keep an eye on the particular irises that don't seem to be increasing yet and see what happens.

I have a few that took a couple of years to start increasing. They must have known I was eyeing their spot for other irises and decided they better prove their worth! Hilarious! Hilarious! And of course when you get weather that wipes out a bunch of iris which are left standing? Oh yeah, those slowpokes. I have a bunch of them shooting up those middle fan leaves now, and I know they are thinking "so you thought you could replace me? Not so fast there missy!" Big Grin

Jan -it has been interesting. There are bigger clumps that all looked like goners, like Blackbird Landing, but now they are sending up increases. It is a real mixed bag.

Jan ~ What a good idea! I shall check and see, what "thrivers" live in my garden. Of course, there will be non-thrivers in there too... Sticking tongue out

But, I will reserve judgment until after bloom time, as sometimes they are very late to "wake up".

Tim: Really nice!!!

Daphne: I have some exceptions but my Irises increase slow as well. As long as I don't lose them, I am fine with it. Less separating Smiling The downside is, sometimes people ask me for Irises and I have had them 4 years and I have to say No, cause they are not thriving enough. I know part of my issue is I probably need to fertilize more.

Monty: Agree with Lesley...Many of my Irises have been underground cause of our cold temps at night and are barely starting to send up feelers to see if it is going to stay warm enough (It's not Smiling ). I don't worry too much until I don't see any growth by April, and then for my climate, chances are...I lost them. But that is a rarity here. Mostly when I see them underground in Winter, I know they are just hibernating.

Lesley: Whoo-Hoo!!!! Glad things are looking up! I so hope you all have a blessed 2019 weather year!!
If you think there is no more beauty left in the world...Plant a garden!!!
