Thumb of 2019-01-14/Raven/048b1f ELMORE JAMES has been growing in my garden since 2013. It steadily and quite slowly increases. The blooms do not fade in the sun and often have a very narrow white-ish edge. Blooms do not get that glossy look in heat. They also do not bloom blotchy. Color is always consistent although I would call it more redish than purple here. Here, the scape height is just under registered at 36", bud count averages 12 on 3 way branching. It is a mid season bloomer. I have never noticed fragrance. For me, it is a good garden plant.

Elmore James was a little slow to take off in my garden, then did well for a couple of years. Last summer I moved it, thinking it needed more light. Apparently it disagreed, I think it died. Hoping a bit survives, I agree, never splotchy, nice rich color that does not turn shiny at the end of the day. Was more purple than red for me, lovely rich color.
