Thread OP
Victoriaville, Québec (Zone 4b)
My astilbe withered and dried up last summer (zone 4). It was a wonderful bloomer and required little maintenance. Now I am wondering, since our summers have heated up, if I should have watered it more. The same thing occurred with my Goat's Beard—the only two plants to have been affected.

My question now is will my astilbe come back this year or should I replace it?

Spring is coming soon and I'm trying to plan my garden.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Unless your astilbe actually died last summer it should come up fine again this spring. It is hardy in zones 4-8.

I would fully expect to see it return. They do like moisture.

In my experience if they dried up late Summer say in Aug. they have come back , if in early Summer they have not.

It should return but I suggest they be moved into a shadier spot.
Astilbes don't like it too hot.

Mine withered and dried up last summer too, but it has done that before and came back. I would give it some time.

Probably will come back, but they do require extra watering when the temps get pretty warm otherwise the foliage burns. Good news is the flower spikes that are left will still look great throughout winter.

Is there a variety that is hardier than others? I love the light feathery look but I have lost them twice. I am willing to try again.

Beautiful plant, SoCal! I don't have any pictures of mine, but they should be blooming in another week I think.

@MaureenQC, have you seen any signs of life from your astilbe?
