I am so excited to see the dormant types of sedum coming out of dormancy. Love the colors on some of them.
Colorful and sweet little Phedimus sichotensis. It goes through some really pretty color changes through spring and summer.
Here are some that provide some great winter interest:
And Sedum 'Twickle Purple' has been interesting all through winter.
Hi Mary. That would mostly be the tender type of sedum, although some of the phedimus types might work if given some shade. Let me put a list together for you and post it when I get back home.
I brought this one home from NM and our cold wet weather has not bothered it. It is one that does well in desert type conditions with some water and a little shade.
@valleylynn Thank you so much!
Nice variety and all different. Will read up and look to see what is available here in Az. Looks like a fun project ahead!
I like when there's this "Small form" label to some of the sedums. I hope it means that it's a cultivar that doesn't run rampant over all the other plantings and starts overtaking the look of the bed. There's this Faro form (?) of a Sedum album that is quite nice because it stays small and is more controllable. The larger form gets leggy and invasive.
I agree Bev, the 'Faro Form' does stay very small and has a lovely red color. How ever the tiny leaves easily shatter off the plant and will root and start growing everywhere they fall. I still love this tiny form.
Just checking back in over here as I will be expanding my sedums this season and I'm looking for ideas. 'Faro Form' was the first sedum I purchased last year and I will eventually use it to fill in the spaces between my flagstones. Here it is with a tulip photo bombing it in the background. I love this plant!
I would think that Faro Form sedum would be a great sedum to have for filling in spaces in the bed and in container plantings as it wouldn't hijack the real estate as other sedums do. I remember having to yank other sedum out by the handfuls to be able to see the semps that were blanketed by them in the semp bed. It didn't seem constructive to grow something only to have to pull them out ...
Wow, that is a drastic change Jesse. My Faro Form has been nothing but red year round. I didn't know it could turn green like that. I wish mine would thicken up and mound like yours does.
Hi GrandmaChar.
Nice looking plant. It does appear to be a sedum. Not sure which one. Might be able to tell more when it blooms. Has it every bloomed for you?
