I have Ruby-throated hummingbirds every Winter. I haven't taken any photos of them this Winter yet. Unfortunately, I've been too busy. But for those of you who have not seen this hummingbird documentary, it's on Youtube and I highly recommend watching it:
"Hummingbirds - Magic in the Air" on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

I love this documentary! It almost brings tears to my eyes at the end of the documentary. Amazing that there are around 350 species of hummingbirds! This video shows you some of these beautiful and amazing little birds! Some are so rare and unique!

Enjoy!

For those of you who have never seen how the hummingbirds are banded, a new video was just released to Youtube. "A Place in the Garden":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Kathi and Michael Rock (a lovely couple from WI) are folks I met on another forum and they were very helpful to me! This is an award winning short (17 min.) video. Enjoy!

I usually have hummingbirds in my garden. I have posted their pictures in the "Bird Photos and Chat 2019" because I didn't find a post for hummingbirds.
Do you think I should post the same pictures here too ?

Well.. I have searched into the pictures I took the last two months and I found several ones of hummingbirds in my garden. And they are not the same I posted in the other place.
The first ones are of "picaflor bronceado" (Hylocharis chrysura)

The "picaflor bronceado "comes every day to my garden. And they stay in the area all year long. They do not migrate. The other ones, (picaflor común) , can only be seen during warm months. I can see them from October to March or April. But they migrate to the North during our Winters.
There is another variety in the area where I live. It is a white-throated hummingbird (Leucochloris albicollis). It is found in forest and woodlands but I have never seen one of them in my garden.

Wow, a black hummingbird, how neat!

I'm seeing two Ruby hummingbirds every day now, but I've yet to capture them in a photo.

Ruby-throated hummingbird, full name, sorry. Not much ruby on them, mostly the male has the ruby coloring, I get more females in my garden.

Wow! I love those with the reddish beaks! We have very rarely seen reddish beaks here in the past...not sure what kind of hummer though. And the black and white one...cool and unusual! I need to put a hummer feeder up tomorrow...March kind of crept up on me and the hummers always return this Month. Woohoo!

They are HERE!!! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up
I KNEW that putting that feeder in a more visible spot would draw one of the adorable little sweeties now going through Texas in here! I also bought some blooming salvias because mine hadn't started blooming...although the Coral Honeysuckle was a little. WOOHOO! Welcome! back hummers! I may have also seen a Monarch flying this week, but can't be sure. The reports from Mexico a while back inspired miraculous feelings in me and I'm not usually an optimist. I'll keep an eye out for the Scott's Orioles, because last year I got them the same day I first saw a hummer!

Welcome! Hummers. I've been seeing them everyday not also, but no feeder, I have plenty of flowers, trying to get a photo of them, but they're too fast for me....seem kind of shy yet.

Somehow I lost this thread.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
First sighting this year just a few minutes ago sipping from the Hot Lips salvia before it was fully light outside. I was in the kitchen & glanced out the window & saw the salvia blooms bouncing up & down & did a double take & there was my 1st hummer sighting of the season.
They have plenty to eat right now with the autumn salvia & hot lips salvia & the 2 crimson honeysuckle vines all in glorious bloom. I got 1 of the hummer feeders out of the closet as my reminder to get them filled & hang them today.

Don't forget to list your sightings on the hummingbird sightings map:

I better get ready too. Nothing blooming here yet, not even the native coral honeysuckle so I better get a feeder or two ready. Smiling Smiling

Ann - Congrats! How exciting for you. I, on the otherhand, get sad this time of year because ...

Mine will probably be leaving the end of this month or the beginning of April. I have been seeing some chasing each other around the garden. The hummers have been pretty vocal lately. (They do that squeaking sound.) At least 3 still here, which I believe were the original over-winters from the Fall. But I think some new Ruby-throated hummers have either been hanging around or stopping for a fill-up as they are passing through.

I occasionally see a female Ruby-throat here in the summer, who is breeding here. (I see the nest ring on her underside.) She will come to the one feeder, I keep up in the summer months, during the late afternoon. But I have never seen a male here in summer. Though at least one must be here to mate with her. The hummers are much more abundant in Fall/Winter here where I live near the east coast of Florida.

I got the syrup made & hung the feeder so none of them can complain now. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Maybe the red bellied woodpecker will come drinking.
