I know there are many dracaena plants in the database, but I'd like to get a better idea of one that I've had since 2014. It was included in a sympathy dish planter which ended up being given to me. I had no idea what it was and didn't bother checking into it's culture so I didn't care for it properly for a long time. It's the plant on the left - the one that looks like a little tree.
Over the years leaves dried and fell and a large part of the stalk is left bare. I tried to google it but didn't find anything that looked just like it and ended up labeling it Dracaena deremensis 'Virens Compacta'. I don't think that's right.
In January this year I bought the dracaena on the right. It came labeled Dracaena Janet Craig Compacta. Could these be the same plant? I've read through a couple threads about identifying these plants and realize it's nearly impossible to do so. I've looked up Dracaena in the plant database and there is no "catch all" entry (ie Dracaena deremensis) like there is for NoId Phalaenopsis (Moth orchid). Aren't they all deremensis with hundreds of varieties?
