Does anyone know where I could locate some Pearl milkweed (Matelea reticulata) seeds??
I have been searching everywhere and cannot find the seeds for this milkweed. I saw a photo and just loved the little blooms on the plant. I would love to grow this vine on a back fence in our Garden.
I know it would be an annual in our zone, but I'm okay with that. I grow Tweedia caerulea 'Blue Milkweed' vine now in a pot on our patio and every year it gives me a pod or two so I'm able to save a few seeds. The Pearl milkweed would be a great addition to my Garden!
First pic is one of the Pearl Milkweed 'Matelea reticulata'....2nd & 3rd pics is my Tweedia caerulea 'Blue Milkweed' vine.

Thank you all for any help you can give me!

This charming little vine comes up wild all over my property. It forms pods, but I've never bothered to collect the seed since it isn't a rare plant here. Send me a tree mail with your address and I'll be happy to send you some seeds once they form later this summer.

If I thought I could grow it I'd give you my address. It certainly is a lovely little plant. I would imagine it likes sun, of which I have little. Not complaining. Just saying.

Actually it grows well in dappled shade. I already have your address Smiling so I'll send you some seeds to try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I've had it here in various locations, even in sun occasionally...just love the flowers so I found seeds in the neighborhood long agoand encouraged them, now they're on their own. One year was really good for these and the pods were all opening about the same time. I was walking around and all the puffy things from the seed pods were flying all over. What a sight! If you want seeds, I know I have some. Let me know.

I guess now would be time to plant those little parachuters. Do they need to be stratified?

I just discovered a packet of A. Incarnate (Swamp MW) seeds in the back of the veggie bin of my fridge. Probably been there for months, maybe a year. No date. Just a label used by the Dallas Public Seed Library that says the seeds are from a local gardener. I must have acquired them hoping to pass them along. Don't know. The label does say 'the seeds need stratification (cold treatment).' And I bet those seeds are more than stratified. At least they're in a stapled paper packet within a plastic bag. Altho I don't hear them rattling. Hmm.

Not having a swamp or much sun, I'd be happy to give these seeds, if they really exist, to anyone who would like to gamble with 'em. Just let me know.

Hi LindaTX8, I too have been looking for Pearl Milkweed seeds. Do you have anymore to spare? I would love to buy some from you if you have any left.

I have lots of vines that are growing nicely, but it's still too early for seed pods. I still have the names of those who were interested so I'll keep you posted.

Not yet, but the seed pods are getting larger. I won't harvest them until they're ripe. Patience.... Smiling

The vines are growing and flowering so seed pods should be forming soon.

I'm sorry to report that there won't be any Pearl Milkweed seeds this year. Summer was dreadful with an extreme drought of 115 days without rain and triple digit temperatures. During that time, we also experienced "indoor use only" restrictions so no landscape watering was allowed. Many plants did not survive, including most of the milkweed vines.
Hopefully next summer won't be as severe.
