I stumbled over this daylily when searching for better branching... the registration says "17 branches"! I can't believe it...

The page in the database shows no photos. Does anyone own this daylily and can help find the truth?

How can it have more branches than buds? Actually, that is not possible for a correct registration. A branch is a stem that originates from the primary scape and bears 2 or more buds. Neither a prolif or a stem with a single bud are included in the branch count. A 17 branch plant would have to include at least 34 buds. This type of mistake can be found numerous times in AHS listings. The branching rules above are from AHS but I have stumbled across this error many times when researching daylilies on AHS, as well as many other registration errors.

Actually here in the database it shows to be 17 inches tall with 9+ branches with a 16 bud count. That at least sounds closer to possible.

Thank you for your replies. Meanwhile I've found a few more hybrids with strange counts of branches in the database.
Search with "diploid, single, branching greater than 10" yields 9 hybrids, and there you find that some of these branchings (like at "Fortunate Twist") are obviously typos.

For seventeen buds on nine plus branches. No way. Gotta be a typo or someone didn't know what to enter. At nine branches you would be getting less than two buds to a branch. On some of Genesta's branches I have counted over twenty buds. Of course the majority of her branches are two way.
