I just checked on my plants this morning and found that my gardenia bushes have brown spots on them! Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and what I should do to fix this? Should they be put near more sun? Less water/more water? I was so excited to get these ready to plant outside!!!! Help!

Gardenias prefer to grow outdoors in partial shade. You can grow them in containers and bring them inside for overwintering. Your gardenia looks like its too wet. Try letting the soil dry a bit more between watering. And give it more indirect sunlight.

Your Gardenias are reacting to the repotting, the oversized planters and inadequate light. It would be better to keep them in small plastic pots until they are ready to be moved outside.

Keep them close to a north or east facing window. The soil around the roots needs to stay damp. but all the excess soil in the planter may be retaining water for too long and depriving the roots of the oxygen they need.

The soil for your gardenia looks a little wet. Allow the root system to dry out completely before adding additional water. 1-2 full days without water can typically do the trick depending on sun exposure and environmental temperatures. If you would like more information on the gardenia you can follow this link for more information.

Good luck my friend!

Thank you everyone!!! I haven't watered and added more of the water absorbing crystals to the soil so hopefully that helps. I'm going to move it to one of our sunny windows when I'm off work- it's just a pain to do because my cats try to chew up all of my plants Sad I appreciate the help!!!
