This succulent was given to me as a gift and I was hoping to get some help figuring out what kind it is/how to care for it. It doesn't seem to be in the best condition but I could be wrong. Thank you in advance.

I agree.

Cotyledon orbiculata var. oblonga

Provide lots of light, like a position right in front of your sunniest southerly-facing window. Try not to bury any of the leaves (the bottom most ones look like they're underground in the picture). This plant does better when it is not really underpotted, so I would move it to a bigger pot maybe twice the size of the current one. Water well when the soil has gone dry, but not sooner.

Thank you all! I only have access to a west facing window, would that provide enough light or should I consider buying growth lights?

If your plant can "see" the sun for hours a day year round, that should be sufficient. A west facing window may work if it is unobstructed (no barriers outside to block the sun). Try to watch the area during the afternoon so that you can see how much sun actually hits it.

And just a note; this is one of the most poisonous plants on the planet.

I wouldn't go quite that far. It is poisonous to sheep and goats, but not a particularly dangerous plant to humans, as long as they don't eat said livestock. Cotyledon orbiculata is not unique in the genus or even the family in this regard. I can think of other plants that I would be much more careful with than this one.

@iochroma, I read up on it after the other users identified it and it only poses a threat to humans if tissues from animals that have ingested the plant are consumed. I don't plan on eating it nor do I own livestock/pets so hopefully nothing bad will come from owning it.
