Hi Everyone,

We are wanting to put in a bamboo privacy fence, but I am having problems determining which variety are best. I know I definately want clumping bamboo, and I would prefer multiple colors. I am in Zone 7a. I also am trying to find somewhere to buy in seeds, because our property line is 225 feet, so if I could find a place to buy the seeds to start myself I think would be better on the pocketbook. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Bamboo can be very invasive unless you take extensive measures to keep it in bounds. Is there perhaps another natural barrier that you like? Bamboo will invade your yard, your neighbors, anyone that looks at it cross eyed yard... Smiling The way to keep it in line involves digging deep and putting something it can't shoot roots through like a metal or very thick (pool liner) plastic barrier in the ground.

Welcome!

Clumping bamboo doesn't run, it clumps, spreading 3 or 4 inches every year.

If you find bamboo seeds for sale, don't buy them because bamboo doesn't produce flowers very often. Bamboo seeds for sale are always a scam.

I have seen clumping bamboo used as a privacy screen but I suspect its an expensive project.

OHHHH! Did not know there was a variety that would be less scary. A foot every 3 years isn't so bad then. Rolling on the floor laughing I have running grass, it's bad enough, I'm terrified of what could be worse.

Running bamboo coul be worse because bamboo is just really big grass. Smiling
