Keeping the Stephen King re-read going . Finished Duma Key which I feel was one of his most underrated
books. It was his comeback book after getting over pain pills. Now I have started Rose Madder.

Reading a book titled Boyd, the fighter pilot who changed the art of war by Robert Coram. Excellent read, this individual changed how aircraft are designed and the tactics involved, background read is the military management system, if you could call it that. Excellent book

Rose Madder was a better book then I remembered. Just started Gerald's Game. If you have not seen the movie on Netflix , I would check it out . Never really thought they could make a movie from this one and it ended up being one of the best adaptations of a Stephen King book.

Halsey's Typhoon by Drury and Clavin, great read about a typhoon that the US Navy enchanted in WW2 with the loss of 793 sailors and numerous ships.
Excellent read!

White Bread
A Social History of the Store-Bought Loaf
by Aaron Bobrow-Strain

I love baking bread, see my name, and have often wondered how we wound up with the modern idea of it. In other countries they still have the real thing. I just started reading this, I'm on page 16 of the introduction, and it is very political. It's interesting, though, for sure. I'm hoping it will include some lighter history once I get into the actual chapters.

Hi Bread Baker and Y'all!

The US food supply is very political, I think. I did research on childhood obesity and found out how the farm bill, for example, affects food grown in US by farm subsidies.

Without being too political, I will be interested in learning what you learn, when you get past the introduction!

I take my German neighbor to the store. She prefers the darker bread and misses her fresh bakeries in Germany.

All of the books sound so interesting! I used to love to read! Now I get most of my education and history from public TV! While I was reading on garden.org, PBS had a TV show called Breakthrough that was about the history of flight! I think I got all that history in 1 hour, while I was also working on the computer!!! In the mid-nineties I visited an American family living in an apartment house in Ankara, Turkey. Every morning, a freshly baked loaf of bread was delivered to their door before breakfast! What a treat that was!!!

Hi Carol, Was it the baker who delivered the fresh bread? I think we can learn so much from other cultures!
My mom, usually very independent, is having sciatica pain causing her difficulty getting around & driving.
I live 8 hours from her. She has a new neighbor who has been bringing her breakfast & coffee every AM.
Blessings come when least expected!

This may be off the book club topic. However, I think books expand our minds opening us up to new ideas!

This is a great forum for sharing! Smiling

TT,
Sorry, but I never knew who delivered the bread. It was left at the apartment door in a wrapper that kept it clean, kind of like home delivery of milk about 70 years ago in the U.S.

When I do get a chance to read, I enjoy most any kind of book, fiction, biography, history, etc. I haven't read so many books about product development. The stories are interesting if seen on TV. My daughter listens to them on podcast. When we took a road trip we listened to podcast about Bob's Red Mill that makes grains and Chicken Salad Chick, the new chicken salad restaurant. Think the history of Tabasco hot sauce is interesting, too. Don't know if there is a book. "Googled" links about history of Tabasco sauce. thanks for reminding me about this. I enjoyed my Sunday morning read. Now I am ready to plan a trip! This is how books and reading opens your eyes to the world!

I also am reminded of the importance of children's books. Since I have young grandchildren, this is my new type of literature. These books teach values, morals, language (we have Spanish picture book), reading, science, history.
I heard that the new Jeopardy winner who won $ 1 million in 2 weeks, studied in the children's section of library.
These books present information in easy to read format with pictures, making info easier to memorize!
