Thread OP

Dear all,

My new orchid came in a glass vase that covers the whole plant. I was watering sparingly but the flowers started crunching up and falling off. The same for the small buds. So I watered a bit more but now there's lots of moisture at the bottom while the top bark is almost dry again. Please help I can't tell if it's overwatered or underwatered or something else? Thanks very much in advance

Your orchid, a Phalaenopsis, can NOT be grown that way!
Although I suppose that it is kind of pretty, it is death to an orchid to grow it in a terrarium. This is essentially what you are doing. The plant is in a low air movement and high humidity environment condemning it to decreased health followed by a premature death.

AMEN! This is yet another example of vendors selling things that have a small if no chance of survival.
There are orchid species that lend themselves to terrarium and vivarium growth but Phalaenopsis is not one of them.
If you are interested in growing orchids in a terrarium or vivarium check out the Josh's Frogs, Black Jungle Exotics, Glass Box Tropicals or Glasshouse Works websites for species that would be more appropriate

Thanks guys. This was a present and I did think it didn't seem like the best idea but I'm new to orchids. Taking it out of the glass as soon as I get home. Thanks again
