Hey everyone Smiling
I'm thinking of changing my order again Blinking ...poor Rachel from Palantine.

Anyway...I have Forever Rose as one of my roses coming this spring...and I'm not sure if I should exchange it for Stephen's Big Purple or Schon Ingeborg.

I'm really interested in non sagging (yes, you! Young Lycidas) roses with lots of fragrance. Zone doesn't matter as I overwinter my roses in the garage.

Thanks, everyone!

Wow, that's a big difference. SBP & SI are sort of similar in form and color but FR is vastly different! Depends on if you like those softer muted pinks and mauves or if you go for the hot oranges. They're all lovely roses though.

Ray_Gun - Whistling Hilarious! Maybe I should. Hilarious!

Seil - I don't really care...I love the colors on all of them. Big Grin I just want lots of fragrance and blooms. And there's really not that much information on Forever Rose. So I was hoping someone here could say "yay" or "nay" to it. Smiling

I remember that Beth ordered Forever Rose from Palatine this year. It would have been delivered after the fire, so I'm sure she'll show us pictures of it when it blooms.

It's pink, by the way, not orange. The orange one is Dolly's Forever Rose.

Carol,
I wanted Schon Ingeborg myself, it is a ravishing looking rose, until someone mentioned it was her most maddening rose in the garden. i'm sorry I can't remember why that rose frustrated her so. Everyone's climate and ground is different so maybe Ingeborg desired a place better suited to it, you could ask Rachel what she thinks. It is such an exceptional beauty I would think it would be worth the challenge.
With my limited space I tried to get easy roses that love to bloom their heads off this time around , but I rather miss the days of experimentation when I had more energy and patience.

Zuzu - yeah, I have it on my order too. Oh, what the heck...it seems to be a not well known rose. Maybe I'll just keep it and see what happens. Green Grin!

Fisherwoman - Yeah, I asked Rachel...but she hasn't responded (yet). Hmmm....the most maddening rose in the garden. Maybe I'll pass. Whistling

Thanks everyone! I'm always open to more information. Thank You!

I too wanted Schon Ingeborg, but I didn't want the number of roses Palentine required (minimum of three for an order, plus shipping). I thought it was a beautiful rose I would love to try in my yard. I think it would do well in my climate. I say get it so you can tell us how it grows for you (yes, I am being selfish, I know!). Unfortunately, the rose is unavailable in the US.

Here is what Rachel (Palantine) wrote to me about my rose choices:

This is about the Forever Rose/Stephen's Big Purple/ Schon Ingeborg:

Forever Rose was hybridized by my dad. We have been testing it here for a while and almost put it in our cut rose production field because the flower is so full and so beautiful and last a long time in the vase. We did not because the stems are arching so it would not work with all the tractors. If you are looking for a very upright rose this is not it. If you are looking for a very full burst of pink shades you will like it. It certainly blooms more than the two you mentioned (Stephen's Big Purple and Schon Ingeborg). My dad is very passionate about plants and roses in particular. In regards to the scent, Fragrant Rose is not very fragrant it has a light rose scent.

August Renoir is more arching and bushy. Yoland D'Aragon is more upright but are similar in height. This one is a hard one. I do think August will have more total number of blooms.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. Except that, no matter how tempted I am by the beautiful Forever Rose, I want to get a really fragrant rose.

@mustbnuts What you have to do, is do what I did. Make sure your neighbor can see your beautiful roses every day from her deck. Be sure to mention in your daily chats over the fence how soothing gardening is (Ha!). Eventually the bug will strike and before you know it you two are going in together on orders to split the shipping. Whistling

Great idea Melissa, however, my neighbor has been in hiding for the past several months. She has been going through cancer treatment and is embarrassed because she does not have any hair, plus she just doesn't feel all that great. She is always trying to cover her head. I told her I think she looks great! (which she does!). Her MD just gave her clearance to return back to work. YES! She is on the mend!

My side bed faces her kitchen window where I have a double flowering pomegranate tree (no fruit, just beautiful flowers), my Lady of Shalott rose (which she loves), my knockout rose, my Emily rose and Brother Cadfael. She can see them anytime she looks out her kitchen window, her second bedroom window or sits out on her front porch. She has a small part of that bed on her property but it is growing nothing but weeds. I told her I hand picked them totally out of self preservation (I don't want them in my rose bed). I also put 10 cubit feet of mulch down on her part of the bed (I told her I had it left over when I asked her if she wouldn't mind), so I won't get any weeds coming over in my part of the bed and I wanted to make it look nice and uniform. I also told her that I am bringing in her trash cans every week as I am terrible at backing up on the driveway to get out on the street and I don't want to hit them. I figure it is the least I can do to be a nice neighbor. Plus, I hear her putting out her trash cans at 4 am so no one will see her.

So, unfortunately, there isn't any room left there for another rose (unless she puts one on her side--and she would have to install irrigation in order to do that). We did have a nice chat the other day and she also gardens organically. She is starting to make some small changes in her yard by removing a nuisance diseased tree, re-cementing her walkway, etc. I thanked her profusely for removing the tree that was awful. We were waiting to see if a good strong wind would come and knock the thing down on one of our houses. It was only a matter of time.

So maybe in the future we might do something together when she is better. She is extremely nice and I am lucky to have her as a neighbor especially compared to who lived there before. Yikes! The swat team came and removed him as he was the biggest Oxycontin dealer in the area. Then there was the guy with the loud music at 3 am that liked to jump up and down in front of his windows, naked. Then there were the couple that.....I have lots of stories. On the other side of me was the guy who was part of the Las Vegas mafia crowd that was found dead in his car at the bottom of a canal....oh, yea, my life is somewhat interesting here....

Rosebaby - yes! That sounds like a great idea! My neighbors do mention that they love going on their decks (quite high) and looking down on my yard. That makes me feel good. I tried to get one neighbor to grow roses...but she was afraid of ruining her lawn. Hilarious! Lawn? Who cares about lawn. Rolling on the floor laughing

PorkPal - yes, Rachel from Palantine is the best! Now I wish they'd get more Meilland roses.

I did a lot of digging, and I found this (finally) on Diane Loomer from Select Roses (Palantine offers it). I'm going to get it...sounds awesome!

Our USA grower commented on the powerful sweet rose fragrance that wafts through the air when he approaches the row of our special beauty. Her colours will change by the day and hour: deep golden kissed with sunset oranges and pinks. Truly one of the most remarkable colour blends of any rose I know.

Diane Loomer is beautiful from bud to fully open; it's a never-ending flush! Her nostalgic form will win your heart just as the woman herself won the hearts of all who sang with her. I worked very closely with my good friend Bruce Hoffman of Chor Leoni to create the rose he felt would best honour Diane Loomer, C.M., his dear friend and Canadian musical icon.

To match this beautiful flower we are proud to say the plant is very robust, strong growing, well branched, and covered in rich glossy green foliage from top to bottom. Disease resistance is well above average and Diane reblooms faster than any other hybrid tea we have created. She is an outstanding performer in all ways and one is not enough!

One of our field growers told me that Diane "Sings across the field with her colour and fragrance." The woman who inspired so many to sing with joy will inspire you to fall in love with roses all over again.
