Arlene - I just found my first scape today, too! It's on a seedling that will be blooming for the first time. (I started a thread about it.) And I also saw a scape on one of my other seedlings that bloomed for the first time last year and is up and going strong again this year! (One of my best crosses to date!)

I expect my new seedling will bloom before the end of this month! So..... off we go for a new season..... I love this time of year! Just wished I wasn't working during the next 3 months so I could get out there in the morning to enjoy all the new and older daylilies blooming when they are looking their best, instead of late afternoon when I get home. Sticking tongue out

Can't wait to see a photo of your first bloom of the season! Big Grin

This morning I found a scape of Waves of Joy! That was the brightest part of a dull, overcast, chilly, windy day. Good day to cook!

Arlene - Wow! I didn't know Waves of Joy was an early bloomer. Awesome! That is a good one to use for hybridizing, too!

Last fall I purchased Nature Lover from Floyd Cove because it was a cross of Waves of Joy x Tet. Cosmic Kaleidoscope. I'm looking forward to seeing that one this spring!

And yes, Waves of Joy was the first to bloom in my garden last year.

I roasted corned beef, made a really good potato salad and blueberry crisp for dessert. DH had picked up some German Rye bread from Whole Foods. The meal was delicious!

All this talk about first scapes made me go out and look this morning. I have ten clumps of this seedling I lined out last fall and 8 have scapes that are already at the top of the foliage. Have many that will be scapeing in another week.
If this does well again this year it will be a 2020 intro.

Arlene, that sounds wonderful! You bake, too! I keep saying I'm gonna make some chicken soup with homemade broth, but never get around to it! I keep forgetting to defrost the chicken! Glare

I'm gonna slip downstairs this very minute and get that package out of the freezer. You have inspired me! Hurray! I tip my hat to you. Hurray!

Mary, I love to bake, but when the weather is good, I'm working outside! Especially at this time of year. I think for Easter I'll do some cinnamon rolls. Haven't made them in a long time, usually make chocolate babka.

We have had almost a week of 44-45 degree nights, makes for slow scape growth.
