Hello! A friend gave me this -- it is indoors in a pot now, but I think it wants to be outside. It is maybe three feet tall at its highest point.

Its an impatiens. It will not tolerate any frost at all so it depends upon what part of the Bay Area you are in. It will survive outside in zones 10 - 12.

Impatiens sodenii.
Should be outside in partial shade, unless you are near the water, where they can take full sun.
