I thought about a jewel tone bed of daylilies and heucheras all winter. Most of the daylilies have not even scaped yet so I have to wait to see some of the blooms before moving things around. So I will keep pinning plants here to see how it will look.

I'm supposed to be out of town and have a stress fracture on foot so I'm benched and trying to get 2 beds organized, at least in pictures. The idea for this bed came from seeing a photo of a lime green elephant ear, Eleana, surround by blue and orange perennials.

I love the idea of a JEWEL TONE BED.

After all, Daylilies are the JEWELS of the garden, right?

Well, crap. The photo of Berry Smoothie is of it's spring color. So it's bland summer color won't work with daylilies which open in the summer. Same with Paprika.

Is it that they're less red? Georgia Peach is still red but less intense.

I'm really liking what's happening with Plum Pudding. Of course I'll have to move them closer to the border because they're pretty small growers. One of these days I'll figure them out.

A little the worse for wear but at least not burnt.

I love my Plum Pudding. I think it looks good with Japanese Painted Ferns. I would worry about the sun requirements of daylilies not meshing with it.

It's very ho hum bland. The other issue is that the heuchs need some shade and the daylilies need sun. It's blazing hot today but this evening I'll try and take pictures of the summer colors.

I don't have that many heuchs but Snow Angel and Magic Color are totally unfazed by full sun and Midnight Rose very slightly.

Here are a couple pics -- open them all the way cause sometimes the new leaves come in greener in the middle and then color out on the out edges etc.. anyways here are a couple to get you thinking...

This bed is done as it's going to get. Christine I really am loving Gunsmoke and Berry Smoothie this year. I moved Gunsmoke to a fall color bed and wish I had bought more of it.
