Thread OP

Hi folks

Any tips for this ivy which is struggling with really dried out and dying leaves. I'm pretty confident watering is fine and it's getting reasonable light though it is just emerging from Scottish winter so not vast amounts! Any tips gratefully received.

Thanks

Stephen

Looks like it needs way more light and better watering, IMO.

My first thought was also a lack of sufficient light and water. Does the container it's planted in have drainage holes in the bottom? If not, it could be an issue with root suffocation from lack of proper aeration and drainage.

Yes, definitely not enough light and probably a watering problem. We need more information about how your Hedera Ivy is potted and specifics about just how much water you give it at each watering.

There are several dead vines that should be cut off completely. There are some other leggy stems that would do better if pruned back.

Spider mites are always a potential problem with Hederas, as Laurie has suggested.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. I've chopped off the dead vines. I've changed it to this pot with some stones at the bottom to help drainage but the previous one was much tighter so perhaps it has been the roots struggling in there. I water about once a week but only a small amount. The room is bright but still for fairly short days here in Edinburgh. It's looking better for the trim though sparse!

It would have been better to leave it in its original pot. Ivies do best when tightly potted and ailing plants should not be repotted.

Try to improve the light and be very careful now not to overwater it.

My best advice on Hedera ivy is- not to have them, and fall in love with something else instead.

I know, they are so pretty, I must tear myself away, but they are problem children indoors, IMHO. as already described.
Plant it and they will come.

I have one of those "outdoor" ones outside. That may be an option? I mean, to enjoy it, but in a more conducive enviornment.
