Thread OP
Denver, CO
Hello,

I live in Denver, CO and have had this avocado tree for about 3 years now. It has seen a few moves but has remained relatively healthy. Over the past few months, I have noticed that the leaves ,both old and newer, and browning at the tips and becoming dry and crunchy.

I did a little bit of searching and found that the issue might be salt burn. Have any of you experienced this, and how did you resolve the issue? I did a thorough watering in attempt to 'flush' the salts. Should I continue doing this? Though I am a little concerned about overwatering and root rot. (I had some casualties earlier this year Sad )

Thanks!

Over watered maybe. Add Hydrogen Peroxide to water. 1/2 cup to 1 gal.
Turn the pot on it's side and make sure it's drained well. Then water with the H2O2.

Overall, your Avocado is in good shape. The brown leaf tips are a result of either under or over watering, but probably under watering.

Whenever you water, you should always water thoroughly, meaning until some water trickles through the drain holes. Overwatering means watering too soon - before the top half-inch of soil gets dry - not watering too much at one time.

Salt accumulation is only a problem if you use tap water that is on the hard side. If so, then use distilled or filtered water instead.
