I would clip the leaves back to about 6 inches long. They will then spring back up and grow some more leaves. Welcome! by the way!

You won't kill them. They will thank you.

Also, you might be planting the rhizomes too deeply. They should be only half-buried, with the tops exposed. Otherwise they may be prone to rot. They need exposure to the sun in order to produce flowers. Rhizomes are actually parts of the stem and not roots; they actually grow the roots once planted.

welcome bretay.

in future, you might want to add your zone? it also helps with questions ( if you have any), as iris react/grow differently; might need special requirements in your zone.

enjoy the spring bloom that's in full swing.

Welcome! Bretay. Sometimes iris leaves flop after they have been planted until the roots get established.

you can add that info to your profile, permanently. Big Grin just click on the "person" icon in the right hand corner, then tap "your profile". it'll bring up "change your public profile" and just type in zone 8. Thumbs up

there's also a way to look up your zone, but it's been a while since i've done that. i've forgotten, but perhaps someone else on the forum might remember? Hilarious!
