Butterflies
Hi All:

I have several milkweed plants for Monarch butterflies and noticed that love bugs are starting to lay eggs on the leaves and they are on the plants. I want to make sure they will not harm the plant or stop the Monarch from laying her eggs there. I blasted the eggs off some of the leave this morning, but I don't want to risk washing away the Monarch eggs. I read that they will not do the plant damage, what do you all think?

Thanks

Leave them alone and let nature take its course. You can do more damage by trying to help the Monarchs.

The Monarch larvae need an incredible amount of host material to complete growth. You could start another batch of host plants and have them ready.
Good luck!!

Isn't that monarch poop on the leaf?
This says lovebug eggs are laid in decaying vegetation, and they eat that- so they wouldn't hurt the milkweed

Plant it and they will come.

I don't think they ride on them.
There is another bug called Milkweed seed bug, these might be. Or maybe you call them love bugs, too.
