Please add pictures of your poppies here. Be it annual or perennial unless someone wish to start a annual thread.

Mike, just lovely. I wish so much I could grow poppies. Have tried every seed I can find and even last year bought a gal potted one. No luck I have come to the conclusion I am in to hot of a climate for them to grow and survive.

Here's one considered to be perennial, but here in my zone, is actually treated like a "hardy" annual ! This is an Iceland poppy variety named 'Sherbet' from seeds sown in January, ordered from Floret. This particular one is 'Peach'. The 'Sherbet' selection, was in several shades of pastels & white...

Thanks, Mike. I think the original colors, are known as 'Colibri' & consisted of red, orange yellow & white. While I think this selection of pastels, appears to be called Sherbet' with a separate 'Peach' color, which I liked very much. I tried to pollinate as many as I could, as this spring was so warm, I figured flowering would be cut short a bit early, anyway. Sure enough, predictions are for the 90's & the blooms tend to just get "baked" at that temperature.
But, I've enjoyed the flowers about an entire month now & they're going to seed. That was from a sowing, in early January & seeds are so tiny, they must be sown on the surface, to sprout, which took about, only just 5 or 6 days.

Over the many years, there has been some confusion regarding P. orientale cultivars. Some people grew the cultivars from known root cuttings, but then ended up "trading seeds" produced by these known vegetatively propagated varieties. Once the seeds were planted & grown out, it could be difficult to know, if what you received in the way of a propagated root, was actually from the seeds of the original cultivar, or the actual original version, propagated by root division,
There were once some "minicap" hybrids produced in California, I recall were later sold off, to a grower in U.K. & those were called the "Super Poppy" series. So, what was once grown in the States & readily available, is somewhat difficult to obtain, now that they are across the Atlantic, in the "National Collection", grown by an individual in England.
Some, more easily to locate, are 'Heartbeat & 'Snowgoose' , & I think maybe 'Shasta'. I used to have 'Medallion' some years ago...One of the more recent seed grown variety that is popular, is 'Plum Pudding', which orginated from Thompson & Morgan, as did 'Coral Reef', quite some years ago & can easily be confused ( & crossed with) other pink cultivars.

That's great, Jo Ann. I know you're a bit farther up north & probably will enjoy a cool Memorial Day, while I'm expecting nearly 95 by tomorrow.
Seems I tried to do some research on Countess ( Grafin) von Zeppelin nursery in DE. & apparently the "Mohn" fields ( Oriental Poppies) were tunnelled through, by moles, or voles, & unfortunately damaged. Didn't notice the year, but the article mentioned they were getting some from Water's Meadow, Nursery in U.K.. I hope the fields of some of the supply of German cultivars weren't completely destroyed, beyond repair.
I only lost one newly planted root division, due to sudden temperature changes & severe thunderstorms ,( in late winter)- early March..

This is annual rhoeas, 'Amazing Gray' ( or is it Grey?) in a cracking the sepals open, bud stage. The color is really unusual & at first, nearly appears to have blue in it, if you look closely. Sorry, but it's been consistently breezy & these just don't stay still, for photos, & still sway in the slightest wind & even while I set the camera at 400 level.

Mike, thank you for starting this thread. I tip my hat to you. All mine are annuals--haven't kept a perennial going yet. Will try again at some point. You've seen most of these photographs already, but I love Poppies and am happy to post them again. Big Grin

This year is the first where I can see what you mean by 'invasive' on the Corn Poppies. Popping up ever'where! But, I like them enough to let them spread for now.

This is supposedly P orientalis Beauty of Livermere, though mine is coppery orange and the pictures on-line are pretty uniformly red. Pretty regardless. Really fascinating reproductive structure in center.
The last one is an Icelandic poppy, don't know the cultivar.
