It'll be a couple hours before I can go out and measure scape height and bloom size - have a conf call in 5min. It's the first clump in this picture, to give you an idea. (as ever, click to embiggen)

It is, isn't it? Green Grin! A friend suggested Ruby Spider, but RS has a 34" scape, and this one doesn't. I measured one scape at approx 19" and another at approx 28"

Measured the bloom, but not sure exactly how that's supposed to be done. I went with what did NOT curl under -- that was about 5-6" across, IIRC.

The color is way off for Ruby Spider. And, I don't recall Ruby Spider having lighter midribs.

With over 70,000 named daylilies and thousands of seedlings being given away or sold each year --- there really is no way of knowing what you have, unless you have a list of what you bought to compare to, or the daylily is very, very distinct, such as Malachite Prism, Primal Scream etc.

To measure a bloom correctly.....
AHS Registration Information said:Imagine a wire circle that is just large enough for the average or typical sized flower to pass through without touching. The diameter of the circle in inches will be the diameter of the flower. If you prefer, use a ruler and measure from tip to tip at the widest point and this will be the diameter. The main thing to remember is to measure as naturally standing - do not uncurl recurved flowers for the measurement.

Problem is, I don't know if it's one I bought or one that was given to me. It was before I started keeping good track of the ones I bought, but if I did buy it then I have the Lowes/HD plastic tag somewhere in the house. If it was given to me then we'll never know.

I know how much you would like to find the name, but please don't let that bother you too much. We all have daylilies that we've lost the name or never knew the name but we still grow it because we just plain love the flower.

The only reason it bothers me is becuase I'd like to get more of this one. Hilarious! Most of the daylilies in my yard are un-named, but this one is in an area where I *did* know the names of what I planted, but then I added NOIDS into the mix. So I don't know if this is a legitimate NOID or one that has a store tag hiding somewhere in the house

yours and then mine

I can't convince myself they're the same, especially when I look at all the other pics of CP in the database here.

I'm thinking I'm going to leave it as a NOID, especially since as I was walking around my yard at lunchtime, I found these NOIDS (I *know* these are noids, and no chance of them having been purchased) that are very similar to my gorgeous gal (and wouldn't Gorgeous Gal be a great name for a DL?)

It's just a shame, because that gorgeous gal is consistently having the most perfect blooms to date, and without knowing her name, I can't show her

I've never been able to really capture the color of mine in a picture, but it's stunning! Every bloom seems to be perfect too, like you mentioned. I think it's really close though. I've got lots of scapes on mine now, so when it blooms, I'll try to get better pictures. In the meantime, here are a couple more. It looks a lot more orange in the pictures than it does in person.

A couple friends have it blooming in their garden, labelled as "Red Soldier." I can't find Red Soldier in any databases. My friend says it's a really old one, but shouldn't it still be on the AHS site?

At this point, I dont care what her name is, cause I love her. But it's nice to know names Hilarious!

Yes, if it is a registered daylily it would be in the data base. There are plenty sold with garden names or such that aren't actually registered.

You're right, it really does... but Autumn Red is a 39" scape, and mine are nowhere near that tall, darn it.

Mary, if this is the first year bloom for your red daylily, scapes can often be shorter. I am experiencing that with a lot of newer ones this year.

I don't know if it's a first-year... The DLs in that area were planted in 2010, but that doesn't mean *that* one was planted then.

I don't remember really paying attention to my daylilies last year (sacrilege, I know). I'll keep an eye on it for next year. It pretty much fits the rest of the description, other than scape height

She is STILL blooming strong...down to maybe 2 blooms a day, but there are still another 5-6 buds on scapes out there. What a performer!

Rosie Meyer came up in the random pics the other day... reminds me of my NOID, but not quite. I really hate that "almost but not quite" thing, ya know? Hilarious!
