This rose was in my garden 10 years ago when we moved in. It's never done very well until I pulled it from the ground and potted it last year. The stems are long, the flowers last a long time on the bush and in a vase and it doesn't have much of a fragrance that I can detect. I think it's an HT, but not sure. The flower is as big as my hand, about 5 or so inches across.

There are so many roses that look like this, but Color Magic is one possibility.

Zuzu,
Does either Color Magic or First Prize get darker and darker with age?

First thing I thought was Color Magic.
It's a rose!!! It has nothing to do with life and death.

Sharon, in the bottom of the HMF page for Color Magic there's a reference about roses known that will change color in presence of strong sunlight getting thus darker:

Sharon, the blooms on both of them get darker with age and gradually become almost solid-color blooms. That's why they came to mind for me. Both roses also have quite large blooms, so they match the 5-inch size you mentioned. Still, yours could be a completely different rose. There are many that look like this.

First Prize had a wonderful fragrance when I had it, similar to Mr. Lincoln.

Mine has almost no fragrance but maybe that will change as it gets healthier and larger. I have a Mr Lincoln which has the best fragrance in my garden. I'm thinking that the former owners of my house would have bought commercial roses available from Walmart or Home Depot rather than an unusual rose from a rose nursery.

Zuzu,
I measured the bloom which was about 6.5 inches across, about the same size as my Mr. Lincoln. I'm leaning toward Color Magic, however I was confused when I read that it got lighter rather than darker with age on Help me find. Other sites say they can get darker.

Information is contributed to HMF by more than one person, Sharon, and that sometimes leads to contradictory descriptions. It's quite common, for instance, to see a rose described as double (15-25 petals) and full (26-40 petals), or as upright and bushy, in the same paragraph, so it's always better to rely on the photos provided.

If you take a look at all of the photos of the rose in the HMF entry, you'll find some that resemble your latest photo. Here's one from page 3 of the photos, for instance:

https://www.helpmefind.com/ros...

It all depends on where the rose is growing. My Color Magic is growing in dappled shade under the branches of two deciduous trees. The blooms tend to grow darker as they age until the trees leaf out and produce more shade, at which point the rose ages lighter.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think the mystery is solved. I'll post another photo on Monday when it's a week old, that is if it lasts that long. Thank You!
