Please does anyone know the name of this Rose. It has been in my grandparents garden for as long as I can remember but we are not sure what it is called. I have asked around at shows, rose specialising nurseries. Probably put in mid 1990s and it's extremely thorny. Blooms are smaller than some my roses in the garden.

Jeri, that HMF photo doesn't even look like Caribia (aka Harry Wheatcroft) to me. The shape of Caribia's petals is so distinct. Every photo in our database entry for the rose shows the quilled and pointed petals.



That particular HMF photo was challenged by someone who thought it might be George Burns. George Burns was the first one I thought of when I read Happyabbie's mention of the thorns. George Burns is exceptionally thorny, but the rest doesn't fit: George Burns' blooms are no smaller than the blooms of most roses, and the colors usually are more intense.

Zuzu, you have this one. Does it have lots of thorns?

Looks like Claude Monet to me. Or maybe one of the other painters?

Camille Pisarro does have smaller blooms, but it isn't excessively thorny and it doesn't have as many petals as Happyabbie's rose. Same story with Claude Monet: Not enough petals.

It is more like 'George Burns' and the colours are quite vivid when the blooms come out at first. The Rose up until this year was restricted growth due to a very large clematis that we have since took out, unfortunately. I was looking at some sizing blooms at some roses my friends have and others locally and it would be average sized just seems smaller than some of my other roses I have here in the garden.

I think this is possibly too light.

Does anyone have a Marc Chagall rose. It looks similar to Happyabbie's rose. Does it have enough petals?

Marc Chagall's a good match colorwise, but it's too new (2013). Happyabbie's rose has been there since the mid 1990s.
