That particular HMF photo was challenged by someone who thought it might be George Burns. George Burns was the first one I thought of when I read Happyabbie's mention of the thorns. George Burns is exceptionally thorny, but the rest doesn't fit: George Burns' blooms are no smaller than the blooms of most roses, and the colors usually are more intense.
