We bought a 1975 troybuilt horse on it's 3rd motor. (Runs great after an overhaul). So we planted a vegetable garden and started on our orchard.

My best recommendation to you is to...

1) Buy and read Garden Ways' Joy of Gardening by Dick Raymond.

2) Watch these videos on gardening and orcharding from UCTV.

Trust me you will learn a lot.

One has to do more than just read. They have to investigate and think for themselves.

So Cal, what fruit trees do you have? I planted my Meyer lemon in a huge 24 inch pot. The nurseryman said it can spend its entire life in that size of a pot. I bought a blue pot that looks like porcelain but really isn't. Just beautiful.

I have lots. I think I have the following:
1 Fuyu Persimmon, I have fruits a few years now
4-5 types of apple, all espalier against my wall, lots of fruits on, a few golden Delicious and maybe Pink Lady.
2 cherry trees, one 4x1, no fruit yet
1 Royal Bleinheim Apricot, fruiting for a few years
1 4x1 Pluot, one type is fruiting
1 4x1 Plum, one type is fruiting
2 Asian plums, no fruit yet
1 peach tree, no fruit yet
5-6 fig trees, all fruiting
3-4 long an trees, Asian fruit, all fruiting
2-3 lychee trees, Asian fruit, not fruiting yet
5 jujube trees, fruiting for a few years
2-3 Asian pears, only one has a tiny fruit so far
2-3 mulberry trees, no fruiting so far, young trees
2-3 kumquats, all fruiting
2 Satsumas, all fruiting
2-3 nectarines, one is fruiting a few years
4-5 lemons of all types, Eureka, Myers, etc..
3 grape fruits, no fruiting yet
2-3 avocado trees, first year growing, tiny fruits so far
2-3 mandarin types.
10-20 blueberries, all fruiting
5-10 blackberries, 3 are fruiting
2 oranges, fruiting, but I really grow them for the fragrant flowers.

Thanks I did push the limits. But I vow no more fruit trees, they take a long time to bear fruit. I will keep the best.
