I really, really want to encourage trades and free offers on the iris forum on ATP and our sister Irises Cubit.

But I want the members to be gently reminded to use some caution.

We have had two problems here recently. The last one was a definite scammer looking for free irises. She/ he has been on numerous websites doing the same thing, and not just irises.

Dave, of course, took care of her, and she is no longer a member.

My suggestions, and please feel free to add yours:

If any generous soul wishes to send irises for postage, bless you. Get the postage up front. I wouldn't be so concerned about the postage cost to the recipient. If you only have enough for a very small box, ask for the monies for a small flat rate. If you have a few to send a medium flat rate is only around 11.00, and since they are getting irises for free, that cost is minimal.

When trading, I want very much to encourage new people on this forum. But if you're new, it would be best if you're dealing with a member that's on here a lot to offer to send your end of the trade first. Maybe that will encourage some of our ahem, lurkers, to come and talk to us more often, so we feel comfortable trading with them.

I don't want anyone to be discouraged from trading. It's a wonderful thing. I'm sure these two incidents were isolated, but it really gives you a bad taste when someone doesn't fulfill their end of the bargain.

So, please trade, but know your trader, or get your trade or monies up front.

I am very interested in adding some Siberian Iris to my garden. I do not have anything to trade but if anyone has something they would like to get rid of, let me know. We can work something out.
I really think I would be happy with the Siberian Iris overall because they seem to be low maintenance and do not require a lot of water. I have enough stuff that needs to be watered.
If anyone knows of a good place where I can order a few please let me know. I was looking around yesterday with not much luck, except maybe snowpeakiris.com. I Need to email them.

Susan, I would highly recommend SnowPeak. Dee is our moderator here. She sends great siberians. Plus did you know she has a siberian clump sale going on in Cubits.

Don't be sorry, Shannon. Those three falls Japanese do look similar to siberian. I don't know the cultivar name, no.

Shannon, I sure they will be fine as long as they do not need a lot of water, I might disappoint them.

PollyK, I went to the Iris Cubit and clicked the Cubit Owners Sales and Specials, then right at the top is 'Clump Sale' and it said 'Closed'. That is why I did not try to put in a order sooner. I just realized that is a sticky she forgot to remove last year!!

Thank You Cindi! I just ordered 6 Siberian clumps from Dee on Cubits. Might add more next month since she will have it open for a while. What is a spuria?
Guess what? I have a low area in the yard that seems to stay wet a while and I might try some of the Japanese Iris, don't they seem to be prettier than the siberian? I have seen some real knock-out beautiful flowers on the threads.

I think you can grow both Japanese and Spurias! And virginicas, of course.

Rose, did you by chance split any of your clumps from Dee? They were so big, I made most into 2 or 3 clumps... That would give you something to offer during spring swap time!

Dee, your babies look so pretty & green out in the garden. They've been enjoying the rain from Isaac. Oh, and I've been meaning to thank you... I got toward the end of my planting/potting with them and became confused then realized you'd included an extra clump of 'Blackberry Jubilee'! I was going to put it on the "gift table" at our fall mid-atlantic swap, but turns out I can't make it... so I think it will go to my FIL's best friend when we visit... he has a lovely restored historic garden. (My MIL usually gets dibs on my extras, but she has very little sun in her garden!)

Jill, I am planting them tomorrow, they are in pots and all are good except one and all the leaves turned brown. Do you think it is dead? I guess I will plant it anyway just to see what happens. I planted the Bearded ones today, into a new raised bed which will get about 6 hours of morning sun.
