I found these on my porch this morning. Devouring some type of insect.

Are they fire ants or maybe pyramid ants? If they are pyramid ants, is it true they will fight fire ants?

Thanks!

Hello!

The broadhead and strong mandibles remind me of the Camponotus floridanus (Florida carpenter ant). http://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Ca...

They like to live in old logs. Any old logs around the property?

Thank You! Thank you for responding! I'll check out the link.

No, my yards are small, and the ants were on my front porch. I have a brick planter about 18" tall that runs across the front of the house. Concrete foundation. I have no logs or old wood.

The (good) news is pest control came yesterday and place a whole LOT of bait. I have at least 5-6 different species all over and under my lawns. I was concerned that these might be fire ants because I know sometime their nests are not visible. I have not previously seen this variety before.
