Hi! I have two polkadot plants (the one pictured and another one that's green and light green). I got this one like two months ago and the leaves won't stop browning! Even newly sprouted leaves immediately brown. I've noticed this in my green and light green one as well and I ended up cutting off all the leaves and changing the watering to see if the leaves would stop turning brown but they still do! Is this a problem with watering? Thanks!

It wants constantly moist soil, like a fern. And of course, not too moist. What I learned to do for my bosses plant was to water often, but to barely let water escape the bottom, so the soil was moist but not soaking. I gave a small plant a quarter cup about twice a week. It was under fluorescent lights, the more light the more water. Brown leaves that are never yellow first would convince me of underwatering. Good luck, You picked a challenging plant.

As Laurie wrote, Hypoestes is a very challenging plant. It is often grown in terrariums where the soil is constantly damp and the air humid.

There are a variety of conditions that can cause the leaf browning. They include soil that gets too dry; using hard water or fertilizer; very warm temps; low humidity; and too much or too little light.

So you can see that to keep this plant looking good you have to get a lot of things just right.
