Has anyone found out any EFFECTIVE way to get rid of moles? I've tried many things but nothing seems to help at all, and there are tons of moles in my yard and garden as well. They make at least 2 new holes each day, so any advice will be appreciated!

I actually love my mole. I have horrible clay soil, and if it weren't for my mole, I'd have no garden at all. The ground is too hard for me to dig, so I utilize the soil he digs for me.

It is extremely unlikely that you have "tons" of moles. Moles are highly territorial, and they typically have a range of about one to two acres. They are fairly solitary animals. What you have is one very, very, busy mole. Maybe two at the tops. My advice is to see the mole in a more positive light. Yes, they eat worms, but they also eat the grubs under your lawn. They aerate and lighten the soil. I wish my mole was as busy as yours.

I agree, Sally, probably one mole.
I learned from an old-timer farmer, moles are most active at noon. So Klara, how brave are you? Let me tell you my mole story.....I got a box with a lid, then stepped on all the fresh runs so they were flattened, pulled out my lawn chair and waited for activity. Soon the mole location was evident because the dirt above run was moving as he worked his way through the run. He is located just an inch or two below the surface. I quickly pulled the sod up and pulled him out of the run by the scruff of his back. A cute fellow, with the softest fur. I put him in a box with a lid and we went for a ride (far away) to another location where there's no one around to appreciate his work.

Thank you for advice Thank You! . It's great to know that it's probably one or two moles, so I'll probably try to catch it the way you suggested, since the moles tend to dig up half of my garden,so unfortunately I can't find them in any way useful. I only ever saw one mole reaching the surface and I did the same thing you did. Put it in a shoe box with holes (cause I have no intention to harm poor animal) and let it out in a forest near by.

When removing captured mole, release far, far away.

I am having the worst year with moles as well. 4 holes every day, some done in the middle of the night.

My hat goes off to you two ladies. I am sure I could not grab a mole to save my soul, let alone my garden. How small are they really?

Those that I caught were about 9 inches long- tip of nose to tail. Fir is so, so soft. An interesting moment to study my adversary. Didn't want to kill it, just didn't want him in my garden. So we got in the Jeep and went for a country ride. He pointed out a couple of nice spots to be dropped off. I drove a few miles further.

You ladies that want to be rid of moles........you need to get you a rat terrier. They are hell on moles, rats and mice! Smiling Now that we own a piece of rural property that HAD a mole or two on it (and a gopher), my rat terrier is nearly 16 and uninterested in such things...........just eating and sleeping, pretty much. LOL But in her day, she would dig to China to get something in the ground like that. Smiling

But we got rid of our moles and our gopher effortlessly. We noticed 2 months ago all the dirt mounds on our sandy loam rural property seemed fewer and fewer every trip down to water/mow. Last Saturday, we didn't see a single gopher hole. We think the red fox that has dug a hole under our cabin steps must have rid us of them! We hope he decides to stick around to keep more from returning. I hear foxes live around 10 years and he would be nice as a natural exterminator. He dashed from behind some trees and then ran in front of our car from the entry gate to nearly all the way to the cabin (about 3,000 yards or so) last Saturday, just trying to stay out of the car's way. We were just creeping along, of course, so as not to tire him out. Smiling I've never been that close to a red fox. It was so exciting to watch him just 15-20' in front of us for such a distance. I think the mole and gopher population is soon to be "toast" there, if it isn't already. Now if that fox will just kill the 1-2 copperhead snakes we've seen in the fenced yard, hanging out under the laundry building. Big Grin The local owls are slacking in their duties there.

Lots of Youtube vidos on getting rid of moles. attach a hose to the lawn mower or other gas combustion engine and stuff the other end down the moles tunnel and let the engine run for a a tank of gas(lawmower of course.).

Carbon monoxide does them in.

Then get some milky spore and cover your lawn. to keep them gone. Isn't cheap stuff.
