Help. I have too many. And they all get to go back inside too soon. I count pots, not plants. I am not counting tropical cuttings in jars of water. Succulent cuttings drying out on a shelf. Pots with seeds that have not come up yet. No, I am not gong to buy any more or trade with anyone. 729. Of those, 340 are Sansevieria. I'd like to get rid of 100 - 300 before winter. Gene

20 pots, maybe twice that many individual plants.

I have 43 pots, and no cuttings or plants in water. I also have 9 air plants. None of my plants are duplicates, but I have different types of plants such as hoyas, orchids, dracaena, etc. Usually the only reason I have duplicates is when I'm going to give one away.

Gene, how long does it take you to water? If I water all of mine at once it's about an hour and a half.

43 pots in 90 min. equals about 2 min. a pot. Right now while they are outside it is fairly easy to water. I use the garden hose on the tropicals - easy. For the succulents, most of which would not appreciate a general spray, I also use the garden hose but with it set to jet and pressure turned down so I can be exact. Does not take very long at all. If I like something I have duplicates.

Baja, I see so many great pictures you have taken I guess I assumed they are of your own plants and that you had hundreds.

Good question. Without going to Google or Wiki I might guess - plants that people grow indoors. There are no native house plants.

Duplicates? First that comes to mind is that I like Sans. Cylindrica. I have 13 pots that are over 45 years old. Yes, large pots. Wish someone would take a few off my hands.

I currently have about 20 in the house. I put 15 outside for the summer and I've been trying to pair down because I got a cat and it was hard to take care of a bunch of plants and my cat (luckily she has no interest in any of my plants except my prayer plant and I think that's because it moves)

I have cats that live outside. Often visitors ask me why they are not inside.

I do, but most of them are outside. The indoor space with decent light is much more limited.

Yes, thank you Gene! Clearly, I am not as efficient as I could be- I do sort of lollygag when watering. Hilarious! I like your idea about the skewer to reach the hard to water plants. That is a problem now that I'm using shelving with lights.

I guess I have 35 -ish individual pots that will come in the house when its cold. Many to tough it out in various semi dormancy corners of the basement. I also have very limited good light and time for winter plants in house. I may count tomorrow and be surprised actually.
I have about a dozen 'work' plants- some seasonal like Phalaenopsis went to work for a while, such a long bloom, and I got to see them there as well as here.
Plant it and they will come.

Sally, I hope you have read my threads on lights for my hose plants. I am already planning on adding some for my new tropicals this Fall.

Yes Gene plenty of good guidance there. It just isn't in me to have a lot more lights or plants right now. My basement plants do surprisingly well with limited light and water.
Plant it and they will come.

Well, read all the comments ..
Sigh -
Have no houseplants .. none ..
If they are gifted to me, they die.
Some people [like me] can look at them and they give up.
Can't even keep a cactus alive inside... now, that is sad..

Just wanted y'all to know that there is at least one Soul -- who has none.

Peggy

Outside --- that's another story !

Live like every day as it is your last because one day -- it will be.
(if I can find who said this, I'll credit that dear Soul -- wasn't me, but it makes a lot of sense)

This isn't a dress-rehearsal ~

Hey, it is a gardening site. If you enjoy that, that counts!! Not everyone does house plants or perhaps should. I have met many people who's idea of a house plant is some cactus merely because visitors cannot tell if it is dead or not. Sigh.
