Hi All. I repotted two orchids about a month ago that were previously in sphagnum moss and whose blooms fell in the early Spring. I have them in a window with Eastern exposure that gets filtered light. I'm watering them every three or four days when the bark is dry since we are having a hot summer and I've given them orchid food about 3 or 4 times since replanting. Orchid 1 doesn't have green growing tips and is losing a leaf with no signs of regrowth. Orchid 2 has new growing tips but no new leaves. Strangely, the old spikes that were brown and dry are changing color and seem to be coming back! My questions are: How do they look and should I be doing anything else/ differently? Also, is it possible that those old flower spikes are coming back? Thanks for your feedback. Stacey

Please Bancs, read all of the threads and the very informative sticky that we have in the Orchid Forums, great information!! Particularly the one about starting out with Supermarket orchids-Phalaenopsis.
A spike gone dry and brown, can not come back! That's reviving dead tissue. Only the Lord can do that.
If you repotted these and have not seen new growth, fertilizer is NOT needed. Fertilizer supports new growth, it doesn't create it! Phalaenopsis and orchids are not heavy feeders! I have been growing for 45 years and yet I fertilize three times a year. No more.
When they are newly repotted they should be in low light, no sun, water so they never dry out! They typically show new roots within 4-6 weeks after repotting. Sometimes a little more. Patience.
I echo BBQ's assessment that these look pretty good. They will come around.

Thank you both. As you can tell, I'm very new to all of this and am still researching and learning, sometimes getting conflicting advice which can be confusing! I appreciate hearing from experienced growers. Glad to hear they are looking fine and are in need of time and more patience.

Best
Stacey

Thanks, Bill. Boy did my my orchids get lucky that I'm getting advice from you! I'm a Long Beachian- right around the corner from Lynbrook! You know orchids and you know my turf. I'll be looking out for your feedback in the future.
Thank You!
