At the risk of being censored for mentioning a bulb website here, I recommend Brent and Becky's Bulbs. Their nursery is located in one of the Virginia's, I think, same zone as me (7b). I have not personally grown these bulbs, but I know many gardeners here that do, and I know they are successful here. I am planning to grow fritillaries next year: there are so many neat looking ones ! Hurray! Hurray!
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.

There's no risk of being censored for recommending a business! Here's the link to our Green Pages for Brent and Becky's where you can read recommendations from other members! There's a link to their website at the top of the page! Green Grin!

Snake's head fritillaria grew fine, bloomed fine.
Crown imperial did not.
I even tried treating the bulbs like Amarylis... That got foliage... Which died on being planted outside... Planting according to directions? Nothing.

Too expensive to keep trying.

Alliums?
No problems.
