Hello,

My 7 year old plumeria seems to be experiencing some sort of rot. A few weeks my once thriving plumeria abruptly lost its leaves and I noticed the tips were very soft. I cut away the soft portions and reported the plant in a larger pot with better drainage. When I returned from vacation I noticed the rot has continued its way down the plumeria trunk. I've never had a single issue with this plant (it's acustlly two plumerias in the same pot) and I can't figure out what's going on. I moved it to a covered porch as we have had an incredibly wet summer here in Tampa, FL and I feared that it may be getting too much water. Then again, it's survived 7 years of constant summer rain. I'm at a loss. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I appreciate your help!

I agree it's puzzling but sometimes this just happens. Sorry you lost your prized plant.
If it has not gone all the way down the stem, cut back until you have white wood and sap flowing. Then keep it out of the rain for a bit until it heals. Some people use pruning seal or even wax to seal the cut.

Possibly an injury near the tip allowed water to seep in & cause the rot. some sort of borer ?

Rundmk I too live in Tampa and think your plant got to much water the soil really needs to dry out before watering again, in the winter maybe water once month. Cutting back is your only option I believe also draining of the pot is essential for healthy plants. Always for plumeria, the nice thing if you y'all caught it in time it will split into more branches. Hope this helps
