Can someone recommend me a really good yellow daylily? I have been growing a large group of Bill Norris for years and this is a very good daylily in my opinion. It is not for nothing that it won the Stout Medal.
However, I was now considering replacing Bill Norris with a more recent cultivar.
Someone who has a proposal for a yellow blooming machine?

I see that Bill Norris is a round, ruffly yellow.

Most of my favorite yellows are all giant UF's. Do you have any preferences on styles or size? ...or bloom period?

As many might guess I can recommend two;

WIGGLY PIGGLY
Thumb of 2019-09-04/Charlemagne/7921a3

MISTER BUTTERS
Thumb of 2019-09-04/Charlemagne/dd4b3d

Both are tall, hardy, long bloom season showoffs And I have replaced the MISTER BUTTERS photo with the real version of it, sorry.

Hi Tim, my only limitation is the height, I would definitely not want to go above about 35 inches, then they block the view of the plants behind it.I would prefer not to have the flowering period too early because the nights here can be cold early in the spring.

Thank you for giving these two suggestions, Charley, unfortunately these are a bit too high for me because they take away the view on the back of the border.
These are two very good daylilies that I have had on my list for a long time, the cultivars of Judy Davisson are always "high quality"
I hope to use one of these in another project where the height may be a bit more.

Hi Roger, Karen
Banana Smoothie is too high for me as I indicated in my previous posts.
I will do a search for King Kahuna , it seems like a richly flowering daylily!
Thank you for the suggestions

This one might be too small (Stamile, 1990 (too old?); 23" tall plant/6" bloom) but I am partial to Stamile's introductions:

I am not sure you can find it but, 'Buddy's Jane' (2013) would likely really show off for you.

Charley, the Siloams are great good daylilies and will probably give a nice effect in the garden but I would like to opt for a more recent daylily this time.
I have seen Limonero Squeeze (Stamile 2012)
Do you have experience with this one ?

Hi Carol, thank you for bringing these daylilies to the attention but I actually think they are a bit old, Bill Norris (who I want to replace) is from 1993 and these are even older.
I absolutely do not want to claim that older cultivars cannot be beautiful, on the contrary, for example, I have Demetrius here in the garden (Harris 1978).
A very good and beautiful yellow daylily.
But I look too much at the intros of the last years on the hybridizers websites. Smiling

I just looked around the internet for Buddy's Jane here in Europe but I fear that this cultivar is not available on this side of the ocean ....
However, it looks very nice, good statistics and good reviews here on the forum, unfortunately we can no longer import anything from 2015 ....

I do not have this one however if you get it you can send me a division!

My guess is that with all of the regulations regarding agricultural shipment out of the E.U. and into the U.S.A. I'm more likely to get you to send me an.order of moules-frites than a daylily.

Charley

By the way, we tend to call daylilies "tall" and "short." Being capitalists through and through, high and low tend to describe prices. Smiling

Hi Pat, you bring a lot of beautiful yellow daylilies with you Smiling
Of the four you propose, I already have Boundless Beauty myself.
I have already checked the other three, but I am afraid they will not be for sale in Europe. Sad

I do like my Limonero Squeeze. This year had fewer blooms but it's been a weird summer. I have it in front of a dark shrub and it really pops

The yellow that blooms the longest and had the most reblooms is Going Bananas. I use it when I want a drift of color.
