Some sunflowers really do get quite tall. My mother's folks in N.C. farmed tobacco (and watermelons) all their lives and my grandmother just loved sunflowers. They moved a lot over the years, but Grandma HAD to have her patch of sunflowers at every farm they ever lived on. She would grow the tallest ones at the back, medium height strains in the middle and short dwarf types in the front. Man, her sunflowers were a sight to behold when we visited. It was like a wall of yellow with birds, bees and butterflies on them all the time.
