Thread OP

Hi all,

Some horrible bug is eating my pumpkin plant. I never see any critters but I notice on the leaves there are these little black specs on leaves that are really damaged. What can I do? I've tried Sevin and Neem oil to no effect. I may have to just cut it down if I can't find a solution :(

Attaching pics.

Cabbageworms and armyworms can do that. Bt is the answer. Sevin may or may not work.

Bacillus thuringiensis. Bt is marketed in a number of pesticides. Look for Thuricide, Safer, etc. Anything that lists Bt as a primary ingredient.

For caterpillars, it works.

Another pest is the squash bug. They dine on the fruits of most vine crops including squash, cucumbers, tomatoes and pumpkins. Difficult to get rid of as adults but Sevin works when they are young. Don't know if Bt works on them.
