So I haven't done any hybridizing with daylilies, but I know a lot of people on here do, including some of the well known hybridizers.

In the lilium world, some breeders put rights attached to their plant material that they get royalties if you use their material, or you strictly can't use it at all if you plan to sell the material.

Is that the same scenario with daylilies and breeders rights? Just wanted to know before I consider doing anything of that nature.

A very few, notably Dr. Apps, have patented some daylilies [plant patents]. Most do not.

I have always loved the attitude of the daylily hybridizers! I belong to several Facebook daylily groups where I'll read conversations between very successfull hybridizers posting photos of crosses and the creators of a parent plant congratulating them, or complimenting them on the color or other qualities of the new cross. No one ever seems to get jealous or possessive of their creations, and for the most part they all seem to get along extremely well.

It's an attitude that we need more of in our everyday lives!
