Annie, so glad your friend is going to be OK. With what I have gone through in the last couple of years, I now question EVERYTHING. Less than 2 years ago, I had somehow injured my right ankle and I was hobbling around with a cane. I went to my regular primary care doctor, and he sent me for an X-ray or catscan (don't remember which) and the test revealed I had an old fracture in my ankle that hadn't healed quite right. I was then sent to an Orthopedic doctor who suggested I go and have surgery. Well, I went home, did the ice and heat thing for a few days and the swelling went away. I have had no further problems with my ankle since. I have no plans to go roller or ice skating anytime soon (lol) so I can live with things as they are.
Regarding my breast cancer, I am now 3 years in remission, and two days ago I had my normal 6 month follow-up with my cancer team (3 docs) and everything is good now till next Spring. I was even signed-off with my radiologist and don't have to see him any longer at all. My oncologist and surgeon oncologist still want to see me every 6 months for regular follow-ups for the next 2 years (until I've reached my 5 year mark) but Mammos will only be once a year from now on unless they find anything they deem suspicious at my 6 month follow-ups. That is pretty much protocol for BC patients. The 5 year mark is the MAGIC number. I will be 69 in February, and if I were to have a reoccurence within the next 5-10 year ( REMISSION IS NOT A CURE) I don't think I would go through all the treatment again.
To sum things up, Health care costs are so over-inflated, and health care itself, I find very mismanaged. There is no easy fix and there never will be. It is all about … MONEY. I feel very sorry for the up and coming generation.
Most of them don't have a CLUE.
Enough of my ranting ….
Take care,
Jane
