Hello all,

I have a one year old plumeria seedling that is starting to flower. It is a seedling of plastic pink. Fertilized with 6 month Excalibur around May. I brought it in the greenhouse with a little supplemental lighting.

1. How rare is this?
2. What can I do to make sure it flowers?
3. Should I fertilize again to make sure it has what it needs to flower? For that matter should I fertilize all the other seedlings I am keeping in the greenhouse that will be kept between 50 and 100 degrees through winter?

I really appreciate this site and what I've learned from everybody! Thank you in advance for you answers.

To make sure it continues to flower keep the light photo period the same, or shorten it an hour once a month. I wouldn't fertilize because the plant has stored enough food in the leaves and roots to give you flowers now. Plumeria's , will flower because of greenhouse conditions.. You are doing a super job!!!

Very rare to have seedlings flowers at only one year. Rotten timing though!!
I agree, keep it going with heat and light but no need to fertilize.
One caveat: when it blooms and you might find yourself disappointed at its color, remember that climate conditions can affect the color of the flower, so don't judge it on its first blooms. When it blooms in subsequent years in better conditions it may change quite a bit.
This is one reason why I am keeping this ho-hum light pink seedling that bloomed this week for the first time. Maybe it will be more impressive in summer heat. At least it has a great scent!

Good luck on your Plumeria! Always exciting to see buds, though it is annoying just when light levels are naturally decreasing and temps going colder at night. Rolling my eyes. Hope your plant tries to push it though. My plumies on my side are getting ready to sleep.

No fertilizers at this time, just not the proper timing to do it.

Thank you all,

I will keep the lights on the same times and not fertilize. I will post an update if it flowers. Good point on the color @dutchlady1 though personally I will be stoked if mine ended up looking like your seedling there. This would be a first for me so happy to get any color it gives me.

Hi again all. Wanted to share an update. It's my understanding this is a seedling of plastic pink. It turned out to have a fairly common white/yellow for its first flowering. Stoked none the less to get one of these seedlings to flower first year! It has that really strong carnation smell as I've heard described. Thanks for all the suggestions folks!

Cheers!
Greg
