Hi, I'm in Virginia and my ever bearing strawberry plants look healthy but are very low to ground, have a few tiny berries even though tons of buds but rarely a full size berry. There was a building next to them so I move to open, full sun this year but plant didn't grow a lot and buds galore but still tiny berries. Should I cut some buds off to give nutrients to remaining ones? I cut off runners and planted those. I fertilizer. I'm preparing for winter and sent off a soil sample. What else can I do?

When you get your soil sample back you can find out if you have enough phosphorous in the soil to produce berries. If you use a high nitrogen fertilizer early on, it can slow down berry production, but the foliage will look super. Thinning fruit will most always produce bigger fruit that's left on the vine. That can be labor-some with tiny berries, but worth the trouble for personal harvest. .Request recommendations for berries from the Soil Lab.
