Hi, folks,

I'm thinking it could look nice if I grow some white roses with medium to large flowers next to Firefighter and Crimson Glory(mystery one), and I can use them to separate other strong colors as well. I do have some whites, but they are either too small or too short such as Arctic Sunrise, Marie Pavie, Icecap, and Margaret Merril. I imagine the roses I'm looking for might be HTs or shrubs, but I'm open to this.

Because of my 8B Seattle climate, lots of rain from fall to spring and cool dry summer, I would expect they'd be better that if they are disease resistant and rain resistant. Of course, with fragrance is a big plus. Does this sound too perfect to be true? LOL. Any suggestion?

It is a Hybrid Tea Rose, Int. 1936. It was a famous show rose in its day -- For today's gardener, it makes a vigorous, upright, mannerly plant with no disease problems anywhere I have seen it in CA. It is fragrant. Blooms are very large and pure white. It will do just fine on its own roots, and is tough as nails.

I was going to suggest DA Fair Bianca. I will have 2 of this rose in my garden.

Look at Crystalline, Honor, and Full Sail on the data base. I enjoy all three in my garden.

Moonstone is white with a slight blush of pink now and then. Good upright and vigorous growth and lots of bloom for me.

Tineke (bareroot) does very well here, no balling, no browning, no thrips, no blackspot, no mildew - beautiful flower form, upright.

After looking over all of them on HMF, I'm now interested in Snowbird, Pope John Paul II, and Tineke.

I'm especially attracted by Snowbird, which grows in a different way, like a "mounded HT", more bushy than a typical HT. So fascinating. I like it. Thank you Jeri. I'm going to email Burling to see if she has Snowbird and Tineke.

And Seil, I do love Moonstone, but it seems to be more pink to me. I'm wondering how its descendance Sugar Moon does. Reports say it is great. So does Secret's Out!, a descendance of Secret. Could anyone who has them share your opinion?

I believe others are great, but they may not grow well in my harsh micro-climate. Though my around 100 roses are planted in controllable pot environment, the prevalence rates are still pretty high: over 90% PM , over 50% BS, and some rust. Maybe it's caused by too much rain this year. We had about one dozen rainy days during July and August, which is insane to compare with "0 day" last year. Besides, we have occasionally strong wind, which made two of my neighbors' fence blown away in two years. Anyway, growing roses is so noval, creative, and unpredictable, to let me enjoy my retirement. For roses, It's almost like a survival game. Only the winners stay. According to my DH, this is a good thing because we won't have too many roses. However, I can always do homework and ask experienced rose growers like you to get more.

It's a pity that Burling doesn't have Snowbird and Tineke right now, but I still ordered some roses that are difficult to get from other nurseries:

Sugar Moon is a lovely FRAGRANT white that blends well with reds due to its crimson stamens. I love this rose but it does BS for me. : ((

I like Sugar Moon, and the crimson stamens. Thanks to this thread, I was thinking, I don't need to buy flowers for Christmas, I have True Passion(red/orange), and white Iceberg roses, red and white. It's will be good on my tiny little vase at dinner table. Planning ahead here.

Socal, I love your photo of True Passion in another thread. Where did you get yours? I'd like to get one not only for the meaning of its name "Double 10", which is my country's birthday, but also because it is reported as a very healthy rose!

I love white roses and have a few
Bolero is absolutely bullet proof
It blooms like crazy and has never had a bit of disease
A rose recommended to the e is Whirlaway . It is considered a mini flora but is standard size blooms on a nice size bush . The best part of Whirlaway. the blooms last over 2 weeks on the Bush
I don't notice a fragrance like I do on Bolero but it is a beautiful white rose

Thanks for your intro, Kris. I have Bolero, a lovely beauty with super fragrant and never balling in the rain, but it does get rust during my damp cool garden here. I've never heard of Whirlaway, which IMO is a very attractive mini-flora. I like the tone of greenish white petals very much. I'll consider it if it can handle my climate.

My suggestion is my lovely "Pascali" she's a real show stopper and would make a great addition for you.

Very Large Blooms.
Awesome Whiteness.

Begins with the very slightest tinge of lemon but Then changes color to a Pure Brilliant White.

Tafy, wow. It does look great. Creamy white without pink is my favorite white. HMF says that it is very disease resistant, which is good news to me. I assume Pascali would do well for me because Wales and Seattle have similar climate. (I hope it's true. I don't know actually. )

Pascali is now on my shortlist. I would like to give it a try next year.

Aah great stuff I'm pleased you like it....... I'm glad I posted the pics for you makes it all worthwhile

I purchased "Pascali" as a bare root from a rose specialist here in UK (eBay) £12.99 = $16 in November last year.
It has flowered continuously all summer it doesn't grow very tall about 24" perfect for my patio pots and I must say it is indeed quite a tuff plant in regards to my other roses it doesn't appear to be affected so badly by the dreaded black spot like the others and here in Wales the climate is awful more rain than sunshine which I think causes a lot of black spot problems.

Good luck I hope you find a "Piscali" it'll be worth it Oh nearly forgot it's got a lovely scent too.

In my local experience White Christmas is my best white rose and very fragrant. It is an old rose 1953. Nevertheless my first choice.

I do grow Pascali as well plus a few others already mentioned ( Tineke). Did you consider Floribundas as well ( i.e Iceberg, Kent or Rose (Rosa 'Snowline')
) ; or some of the not so frequent white DAustins?
