I love Round Midnight. I have it planted in with a lovely unnamed Monarda, and they compliment each other nicely.
LG - My garden grows with love and a lot of hard work.

I believe that 'Round Midnight' is a classic-- widely grown over a long time period and proven to be a dependable performer under a wide range of conditions. Certainly has been doing admirably well for me dealing with Michigan winters and growing in dry, compacted soil and with tree root competition during the summers.

Registered as an evergreen but I think I read that was a mistake and it actually is a dormant. Certainly acts as a dormant by me.

Blooms can vary significantly in color from dark red to dark purple, seemingly depending on ambient conditions. Blooms look good either color. Not a particularly ravishing bloom but pleasing enough, especially when the large 6" blooms cover a large clump. I recommended it as a dependable landscaping plant.

Round Midnight is definitely not spectacular, but reliable and resistant. It keeps its colour and flower all day long regardless of the weather conditions. Smiling

Round Midnight does well here despite its location in the front garden.

I've had Round Midnight for a number of years and it blooms beautifully and reliably in my zone 6 garden. I think the hill it's on is a colder part of the yard as the prevailing wind blows up it all year. Not a problem for Round Midnight!

Big year for Round Midnight this summer of 2021. The large clump grew bigger and I discovered some new ones (old ones) that had been left by the Hydrangea, that were developing into new clumps.
