One of the benefits of doing algebra with five of my six grandkids night after night is that it can give you some interesting daylily names...lol. I have just reserved the above name for this JAMES EDWARD FARRAR X CLOWN PANTS seedling. Once it increases and I can get reliable stats, it will have it's name waiting for it...lol.

Love the sepals. Interesting.
Every home needs a daylily, and every daylily needs a home.

Even your stripes have stripes! Or are they borders? Thinking

The only seeds I bought featuring stripes or broken pattern this fall was Leap Year Lana x the future System Of Equations.

By weird coincidence, I was just thinking about this seedling earlier today. I read a post by Davi that started "Call me cranky", and I thought that or Cranky Pants might be a good name for one of your stripes that can open a little gnarly from time to time.

Congrats on taking the steps toward getting this one registered!

Hahaha

One could do a whole series of CLOWNS or PANTS quite easily. It just when I saw what looks to be three equal signs I knew I had the perfect name to be.

Wow! Very unique and special! Can I ask how many seeds did you plant of this cross that get you to this seedling?

Hi Karen,

I planted five seeds on 12/11/15 and four came up. All are striped and have bloomed for two years now.

Yes Karen, should be interesting cross. Both JAMES EDWARD FARRAR and CLOWN PANTS have DR. VAN'S LILY MERLOT as a parent, which is interesting. I will see my first JEF X CP kids next summer, and will see if it passes along those stripes as dominantly as CP does. If it does, then that LEAP YEAR LANA X JEF X CP cross that Tim has could be a real wowza.

Nice interesting one.
One of the fun parts of hybridizing is naming them. Only problem is, I keep having to cross names off of my list because someone used them. Maybe I should pay to reserve but probably I will just cross them off. I have to give a new garden name to another one since Murphy used the name I had labeled for one of my futures 'Hard to be Humble'. It was used for a pretty flower. Ashton likes weather terms but several other people do also. The best ones are taken. Algebra terminology, I will leave those for Steve. My daylilies probably are not smart enough for algebra. If I get into numerical/mathematics terms it may be something like 'Half Wit'.

Rolling on the floor laughing Terry...it doesn't sound like you have any problem being humble. Speaking of halves, I hope half of that was for entertainment value.

Ah, half wit!

Takes me back to the many one sided discussions my father used to have with me when I was a teenager.

Dim wit

Nit wit

We could do a whole wit series...lol.
