Hey everyone Group hug

Does anyone have any 2019/2020 rose catalogues they don't want or can get for free? I would love to have one...they're my eye candy and I read them over and over again. Last year ?? year before ?? two people from Houzz sent me a catalogue each and I was in heaven!! Drooling Thank You! Thank You! Whoever you were...I wish I could remember who sent them. I've reread them countless times.
But, my brain is pretty terrible at remembering stuff. Rose Companies (Weeks, Edmunds, etc.) won't send any catalgues to Canada or I'd ask them myself. Whistling

Anyway thanks to everyone...

Carol

Carol, do you have the DA catalog? Apparently, they will send to Canada. Otherwise, I can send you mine if you wish.

My pleasure. Unfortunately, that is the only catalog that I get (of roses). I have some great seed catalogs, however.

Have you tried ordering the Tantau catalogue? They ship that to the states, so I bet they'd ship it to Canada.

Carol, I have a Witherspoon Rose Culture catalog, I'd be happy to send It to you, They pretty much feature the modern roses. I didn't receive an Edmunds catalog this year for some reason. If you would like me to send it let me know how I go about getting your address.

Carol, did anyone send you a 2019 Edmunds Catalog? I've got that one, but none for 2020. If you want it, I'll send that one too.

Hi Carol,

I will be happy to send you rose catalogs. I will make a list of what I have and you can select from them what you want. Otherwise they will be discarded. I have kept too many.

I tip my hat to you.
Hello ! I am fine with my covers and I have about 40 bushes under 2 feet of snow. I really wonder how roses winter in zone 3.

Hey Rema Smiling

A lot of people who grow tender roses here use styrofoam on the sides and tops (really thick) and inside this barricade they put garbage bags filled with leaves. I grow my roses in pots, because in my area there is a lot of glacial till (rocks, and rocks and rocks that the glacier left behind tens of thousands of years ago). So I put my roses in the garage. Where there's a will, there's a way. nodding

So the difficulty is probably not a long and cold winter, but the soil of your area?
Yes, you have the will !! I tip my hat to you.
Do all your roses grow in pots? I also want to try the pots. What soil do you buy for pots?

For others here...the winter is difficult...because we live in an area that gets chinook winds...which can drastically warm the area into the teens even (celsius)....so roses grown in the ground have to be insulated from cold (-35 C) to (+14 or so C). That's why the system I mentioned works so well. But to tell the truth...not many people grow roses here.

As to soil...I'm still struggling with that. When I first moved to Calgary, I found this place that sold in large, large bags potting soil. That was the absolute best. I don't know why they stopped making it after 8 years. Then I've been struggling trying to find the right stuff...I tried going organic...didn't work in pots for me. Last year was terrible...tried all organic. Blech. I liked when I added worm leachate from my worm tower...but then I gave up on my worms. I'm going to try Sta Green Moisture Control Potting Soil. BenT suggested this (maybe others too?)...and I'm going back to inorganic fertilizers.
