I've wanted to do this for a long time so I finally decided to chop up my E. hookerii. Until I find homes for the cuttings, any advice re how/where to keep them? I think they need to be in the dark but could be wrong. I have no idea as to temperature. I have some kitchen cabinets that stay cool. This time of year I use them like root cellars but that might be too cold.

I have no intention of rooting the cuttings. If anyone wants a few, send me a treemail. (not selling or trading!)

The epi last bloomed in late September.

This is the 'mothership'. She's currently in the sink of a little half bath. I decided not to repot her because I've never had a good place for her.

I am putting cinnamon on the cut ends in case it's true that it's a good thing to do. But I would really like to know where and how to stash them.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi TFC,
I keep epi cuttings indoors at room temperature and they last for quite a while. Just spread 'em out a bit.
Often they will develop adventitious roots where you cut them that is ideal for growing on.
Cinnamon is used as an aid in rooting. Personally I use cutting powder that has a hormone to promote roots and also helps dry the cut end out which is what you want.
Hookeri is a rampant grower. Also a nice bloom that is fragrant albeit a night bloomer.
Common name is Strictum.

Thanks, Steve. One of my best friends is not a gardener but loves plants. She also has the ideal place to hang epis. So I gave her some cuttings I had potted up and told her that I was giving her a hooker. :)

I grew a lot of epis when I lived in Austin but I wasn't in charge of starting new plants. I think my ex just stuck any broken pieces straight into a planter. Dunno. I do know that what started as a small branch in a 4" pot was soon multiplying like crazy.

So anyway, I do have some rooting powder and I have room to spread them out for a little while. And room temperature it is. Thanks much.

Hope you're far from the fires. And the heat.

Yes we are in the West and the fires are in the East, however there is plenty of summer still to come.
Can't say I have ever seen anything as bad as what Australia has had lately.
Good to see you are still growing epis.
I remember you from Epiforums a while ago now.
Cheers, Steve.

I'm about to cut my remaining ric rac aka zigzag aka fishbone. If it would bloom I could further define it. I got one from a friend in Florida and another from a friend in Fort Worth, Texas.

I gave a couple to my aforementioned friend and they are growing like weeds. I have a problem with squirrels. Or maybe it's just one squirrel. I'd find a branch on the ground, grumble, replace it, and within a day or two the branch would be back down. After a few of these cycles, I decided it wasn't meant to grow in my backyard.
