What is your favorite white rose and why? I've read that white roses make a stunning display at night, and are also a stunning backdrop for darker roses planted in front of them.

Then again, we know the problems white roses can have with hoopla beetles in zone 9, and thrips can do a number on the petals.

One pure white rose I've grown for years is an Iceberg tree rose, although in cold weather it can be more pinkish. Not much fragrance, but it provided a good color separation between Queen Elizabeth and Fragrant Cloud. I'm thinking of replacing it with Full Sail which has larger flowers and more fragrance, although I also like what I've seen of Sugar Moon and it is fragrant.

Also what is your favorite climbing white rose? I need something that can cover a large trellis in partial shade. Cl. Iceberg only grows and blooms sparsely.

Thank you for any tried and true ideas!

Sugar Moon is one of my favourite roses full stop! It's so beautiful and charming in all stage of bloom with a divine fragrance. It's a bit of a tall and gangly grower, but would probably do well with a drier climate. Have you looked at Mme. Alfred Carriere for a climber?

My favorite white rose is Bolero. It has been bulletproof for me

You can't plant your new favorite rose if you are still watering your least favorite

I have grown so few whites i am not qualified to say much , but my favorite is Gruss an Aachen. The little rose band put out so many blooms it its first summer ! Utterly charming with a sweet fragrance to match. My mailman eyed my roses so I gave Gruss away, and now need to buy another. Sorry for not getting a picture.

I grow a few whites and they are all faves for various reasons. First Crush is gorgeous, but slow to bloom due to its overly packed nature. Bolero is a perennial favorite, but does show thrips, something I rarely see on Gruss an Aachen and Marie Pavie, two stalwarts I'll always grow. My cutting of White Pet is still small, but I loved its little flower and hope its as easy to grow as Pink Pet. Yvonne Rabier is almost my favorite, but its flowers sometimes don't open in our wet Springs. They are still pretty! Which brings us to my absolute favorite, Clotilde Soupert. Mine had zero balling or BS last summer once in the ground so it will be interesting to see if it continues being "good". Lastly, I would whole-heartedly recommend Tooth Fairy and Lindee for a tiny single/semi-double form. These sort of roses add so much interest in my view, giving the eye a rest from both saturated colour and intricate form. I'll try and post a few pics in a bit.

A vase full of pure white roses is totally breath taking. Having said that, my favorite is the HT, Crystalline.
It's a rose!!! It has nothing to do with life and death.

Kenneth and Kristine - those are gorgeous pictures! There's something extra special to see the white with the green...they juxtapose so wonderfully...the whites look so crisp against the green!

I have yet to successfully grow a white rose. I have had Sugar Moon for 2 years...not a flower. I've had Pope John Paul II for 1 year...just 2 flowers (no fragrance). I'm not giving up. Hilarious! And I, especially, want to smell a Sugar Moon bloom.

Thanks, everyone! The only one I'm really familiar with of the ones mentioned above (except for the few I've seen in public rose gardens) is Mme Alfred Carriere. Sweet flowers, sometimes pinkish in cool weather. I finally have her tied correctly onto a pillar, so I'm looking forward to seeing much better bloom than when it was growing more vertically instead of horizontally around the pillar.

I have a JFK, but it has definitely seen better days, and I also have Saratoga which hopefully will take off soon once I get it into a bigger pot or into the ground. I'm interested in David Austin's white roses, like Tranquility, but I definitely don't want to get one that ends up having a myrrh fragrance.

Rosa Bracteata...I'm weird. It just doesnt seem phased by bugs, disease or heat here. I tend to dislike anything so double that bees cant access pollen, they also generally have a tendancy to ball.

Right now mine is Champagne Wishes. For a first year rose it bloomed practically non stop and was pretty healthy. Just waiting to see how it winters. I have a lot of problems in my humidity getting white roses to open. Most just turn into brown balls of petals but CW opened all the time.

Isn't champagne wishes from Antique Rose Emporium? Or is that High Country roses. I've been looking at roses for the past few days and I'm getting confused now. Here's a picture of sugar Moon.

I haven't grown very many pure white roses, but have ordered more for 2020. I've had both John F Kennedy and Pope John Paul II for several seasons, both on Dr. Huey. neither have done that great. However, in 2019 I planted a PJPII on multiflora, totally different results. It performed good all season long and the fragrance is wonderful, so with my limited experience with white roses PJPII is currently my favorite!
