I was just looking at the Daylily of the Day Green Spill 1992 Millikan-B and saw that it was awarded an Honorable Mention in 2018. So I am wondering how they decide who is in the running? I am sort of new to this part and I had thought it was the newer daylilies that were entered and after some years (5-10) their chances were over. This one won after 26 years! So why didn't it ever win before this?? Was it entered for 26yrs? Did the hybridizer just decide to give it a shot? did someone else enter it for him? Curious minds want to know Confused Confused

Hybridizers nominate what they consider their best for the beginning tier of awards, the Honorable Mention, but the Awards and Honors Committee can also nominate up to 10 cultivars that they feel have been overlooked, often because the hybridizer is deceased. Any given cultivar can be nominated only 3 times but not necessarily in consecutive years.

Marcia, Karol Emmerich wrote an excellent article in the winter 2019 issue of The Daylily Journal entitled "The Awards Process De-mystified" that explains in detail. I always look forward to getting this publication, one of the great perks of joining AHS. I always learn so much and it's such a nice publication. Even if you don't read the articles, the pictures are always awesome to browse through. Hurray! nodding

Yes, I can attest that the awards committee of AHS did put Green Spill on the ballot as one of our overlooked cultivars list.

Thanks I am a member of the AHS not sure if I got that one with coming down to FL. At least, I don't remember the article. Hopefully, I can get the article from their site. I should change my address but then I have to remember to change it back Whistling Hilarious!
