I saw this daylily at the Lakeview Daylily Farm in Garner, NC in early July of last year. The farm was quite overgrown, but the daylilies were still growing like crazy. That's what happens when you give them sun exposure that's full on.

This plant was not in a row with others like it. In fact I think it had migrated from the next row over. I didn't have a measuring tape with me, and the clump they dug for me no longer had a bloom on it.

I'm going to try to ID it next summer, once the foliage grows out all the way and I can get scape heights and bloom size. All I have for a description of what I put on my incredibly shoddy and confusing sheet of notes: "B78 pinkish-peach picotee". I'm actually not trying to ID it yet...just figure out how to describe it.

Only thing I can say for certain is that the eye had a VERY clearly defined edge. It wasn't feathered out onto the petals at all. I know the sun was too bright when I took the picture. I'd like to know how it'd be described, using the correct terminology (which I'm just starting to learn).

So, how would you describe this flower?
Pink or peach or blend?
Applique throat?
Gold or yellow throat and edge?
For that matter, edge or picotee edge specifically?
Bi-tone or self? I know this one's tough to say from the pic due to the bright sun.

I've also included photos of my shoddy notes and order list. No doubt someone will get a chuckle. Be kind, though...this was a spur of the moment trip to a place that's 2 hours away. My phone died, which is why I had chicken-scratch notes rather than something I could make sense of. Toward the end, I'd been there about 6 hours in the blazing sun, and I think my brain got a little cooked.





P.S. Sad news...I think that Lakeview Daylily Farm, which was the garden of hybridizer Noel Weston, has closed.

Sorry to hear that they have closed. I used to visit there with another daylily friend & they were really nice people. Got quite a few daylilies from them too! Something must have happened because all the times I went the garden looked great with hardly any weeds in sight.

Just know that it is possible you purchased one of their unregistered (but named) seedlings. I bought one (not realizing it was unregistered) so you may not be able to ID that cutie.

Your NOID looks like it may have an applique throat, It's difficult to say for sure by the photo. I love your notes!

Wonder if you can find an old catalog of their gardens. You might be able to find it that way? Maybe look in the AHS or this database and look for Weston Plants.
Sorry I can't be of any help, I haven't seen a daylily that color, sort of looks like it might be a bitone though.

I'm not sure that they have closed. I was chatting on Instagram with a guy who lives 5 min away. His wife knows someone there, who told her they were still planning to open in the spring. Good news!

If it wouldn't kill me (literally), I'd volunteer to help them clear out the brush and trash trees.

Worst part is that I wasn't there when the guys dug it. The row it was in was unlabeled. If my NoID was just in the wrong row (like it had spread over or was actually a seedling), then I probably got whatever WAS growing in that row...and that could look like pretty much anything!

But I'm good with that. It's all good.

The problem is that the farm didn't have a great number of Mr. Weston's introductions. Many daylilies were by other hybridizers.

Mr. Weston, the hybridizer who owned the farm, had a stroke a while back. He passed away last July, actually right before I visited the farm. His family is/was keeping the farm up and running. I got this info from the farm's Facebook page.

That explains the farm going downhill if he was sick for a while before he died. They always kept it really nice before. But if they have trees growing it sounds like they are going to need a LOT of help to get it back to the way it was.

I do hope they keep the farm running. I always try to visit when I'm in the area. The wife was always at the farm & was actually the person I interacted most with. I'm not sure if I ever met any of the other family members. It would be a shame to have such a nice place sold to developers.

What I heard was that Mrs. Weston (Noel Weston's wife) was running it. I hope for the same things you do, and that she's able to bring in some help to get it back to how it was when you saw it. One of my regrets as a daylily lover is that I didn't know about Lakeview until after Mr. Weston's health started to fail him.

P.S. Question for @bxncbx Elena, what's the name of the cultivar used for your little avatar pic? It looks a lot like one of my mysteries from Lakeview...which sadly is my only daylily not showing any growth whatsoever.

Mine took a bit of time to get settled but now it is a reliable bloomer for me. I'd be surprised if your seedling hasn't survived the winter. If your seedling has died I'd be happy to send my seedling to you. I have very little space and I think it needs a warmer climate to do well.

Those notes were scary when I finally stopped to try and interpret them. I'd used my camera battery taking pics late morning, but I had to come up with a viable list.

Good news was that only Persian Pattern died...root rot. It was a very wet July and the plants just never dried out.

You did come up with quite a list Ken, sorry to hear about Persian Pattern's demise. I bet your Hibiscus loved the wet July though.
