For the past couple of winters I've been painting (water color) roses instead of tending them. I don't have anything that is worth sharing, but I'm having fun. I've got a new winter diversion this year: I just had arthroscopic surgery on my left shoulder. I told my doc that I wanted to be able to get out in the garden by late March, so he booked my surgery for early February. I had it done on Tuesday: in and out in four hours. Now I'm wandering around trying to figure out what to do with one arm. It was my left arm and I'm right-dominant, so I'll go back to water colors as soon as I clear my head.

It's bitter cold and windy now. Glad to be inside.

David - I bet that we would love anything you paint. It would be lovely to see. Also which roses are you using for your inspiration? I'm glad that the surgery will help...cause you've got to be rose ready soon!

David, A few weeks ago I started collecting ideas for my watercolor paints, still new in the box for the past two or three years. I should start using them.

That is a wonderful way to spend time, BigAppleRoseGuy! I am a painter myself, so I understand how meditative it is to spend time drawing and painting from flowers. Usually I work from live plants, so in the winter I'm stuck with florist roses (I wish they had fragrance!) but when the roses bloom I'm painting my own plants. One of the things I love about working from cut flowers, as opposed to photos, is that I can watch the bloom change subtly over time. It used to frustrate me, but once I learned to work with the changing plant it was like a gift, this fine-grained observation of a slow-moving organism.

Amazing photos Fisherwoman!!! They look like they're all painted by the same person....did you collect them all from the same place? I'm in awe!

KSPN - oooooh!!! You really have a way with words!

Painting is fun, this is what I painted last year for my life painting class. I still need to varnish it before I can hang it up. One of these days I will paint some of my roses. Oil painting.

Original master painting, 1882

SoCal - Yes! You did a wonderful job!! I'm very impressed! Thumbs up Wowza!

Fisherwoman - that is adorable!!! The artist did a great job on that!

David - I'm hoping we can persuade you to show what you did. It doesn't have to be terrific or even good...just that you enjoyed doing it and then can share it. Lovey dubby

I wish Elfenrosengarten was in English or had a translation feature. The photographs are BEAUTIFUL!

Doesn't your computer bring up a translate request box at the top of the page Jacquelinele? My son said go to Google Translate and enter the website address of Elfenrosengarten and it will load the page and translate it for you.
I have not tried it yet,he said it would work.
